aMSN is brilliant, I use it and it's even better, dare I say it, than Windows Live Messenger.

In a terminal, type:

sudo apt-get install amsn

There is also Kopete, but this does not work in Gutsy, the new version of Ubuntu:

sudo apt-get install kopete

No and definite. there is not any "the Linux OS." Linux is the call of the working equipment kernel, only one piece of an entire equipment. Linux is mixed with different application in countless varieties customary as "distros." Ubuntu is an occasion of one of those distros. For assessment, we could say that domicile windows and Mac OS X are vehicles. Linux could be an occasion of an engine. To make a usable motor vehicle, you elect a physique, transmission, doorways, electric powered equipment, gasoline tank, etc... Ubuntu could be the "vehicle", because it combines the engine (Linux kernel), physique, transmission , and each little thing else you elect for a standard vehicle. once you get the vehicle, you are able to upload added constructive properties, like potential domicile windows and a greater constructive stereo equipment.
