Well, the way you put it just use simple arithmetic. Subtract 28 from 100 and you come up with 72.

Try 25 percent Chinese instead. If your dad was 100 percent Mexican, and your mom was 1/2 (or 50 percent) Chinese, you would be 25 percent Chinese and 75 percent Mexican. It's numerically impossible to be 28 percent of any ethnicity because everyone descends from two parents, four grandparents, eight great grandparents, and so on.

28% doesn't compute. You are 1/2 (50%) of whatwever your mother was and 1/2 (50%) of whatever your father was. You are

1/4 (25%) of your 4 grandpaernts
1/8 (12.5%) of your 8 great grandparents
1/16th (6.25%) of your 16 GG Gp's
1/32nd (3.125%) of your 32 GGG Gp's
etc.

You could be 28.125% Chinese if one of your grandparents was 100% Chinese and one of your GGG GP's on another side was Chinese and everyone else was Mexican.

I suspect you mean 75% and 25%; I could be wrong. If you did mean that, then your mother is either 50% Chinese or 100% Mexican. That is, one of your parents is 50% Chinese and 50% Mexican and the other is 100% Mexican. The 50% one could be your mother or father.

You can also be 25/75 if BOTH your parents are also 25/75.

So, your Mother could be 25% Chinese, 50% Chinese or 0% Chinese.

Is this a math question that your just throwing the heritage percentages in to? In that case then subtract 28% from 100. because 100 is the whole.
It would be impossible to be 28% of any heritage when one gets 50% from each parent, who gets 50% from each parent and so on. One can be 25% of one and 75% of another, or even 12.5% of one and the other 87.5% something different.
That being figured on dividing in half on down the line.

Ummm, 28%?????

Before trying to figure out what part of you is Mexican, I would suggest you go back to your 28% source and reinvestigate. Quite frankly, that is a bogus number. Genealogy works in powers of 2 (you have 2 parents who each had 2 parents). In order to get 28%, you would have to exactly manipulate 14 generations to get within 1% of 28%. Yes you can, with enough generations come up with a combination through that number of generations that yields close to 28% but the earliest you can get ANY combination (and there is only 1 combination at that number of generations) that leads to 27-29% is 14 generations. I suspect you haven't gone that far back.

The biggest problem is that you jump from 64 to 128 ancestors in one generation so you would need 17.92 of your 64 ancestors to be Chineese and at 128 you would need 35.84 of your ancestors to be Chineese to be 28% Chineeses. The .92 and .84 of an ancestor proves a bit problematic.

Though it was an interesting and challenging math problem I must say.

if ur father was mexican, ur mom would have 56% chinese, and u'd be 72% mexican, unless ur grandparents or great grandparents had other ethnicity - look, this issue has too many variables. tell about ur grandparents and dad and mom if u want to know for sure. u might even have a distant ancestor thats british for all u know! "Blood is blood, no matter how thinly it's spread through the ages." meaning, even if u had a japanese ancestor millions of years ago or something, u'd still have japanese blood in u, and so will ur future generations.

If you are only Mexican & Chinese and nothing else, you would be 72% Mexican.

And your Mother would have to be 56% Chinese and 44% Mexican.

Whew, I'm not a math whiz so my head is spinning from mind bender, but Ted is right according to what I was taught. Your mother and father is.....and you are 1/2 of each of them....and they are 1/2 of their parents which makes you 1/4 of your parents parents, or as we say your grandparents. Unfortunately, but sweetly, my parents and grandparents are all of mixed heritage, so I am really a varied % of a lot of things and a whole of nothing but good old human blood. So embrace who you are, each % of your heritage, but most of all embrace life.

If you are Mexican you are 100% Mexican.

Please be happy with who you are and honour all your heritage it makes you who you are.

Good luck and good hunting
