He does this for about 5 minutes then falls asleep but does it 5 or 6 times a night.

My 7 month old kitty does the samething! I even posted a question on here about it too. Everytime she gets happy and starts purring I will pet her gently and then suddenly she starts sucking. It does get kinda loud. Basically what I learned is that she was probably weaned from her mother too early. Also, it is a way for her to relax. She won't do it forever, she will grow out of it. Mine has done it since she was four months, but she's still so small, she's like a little baby.

Feed your kitten 4-6 times a day of KMR. 3 times a day is not enough. The appropriate feeding amount based on weight should be on the KMR package-divide that into 4-6 feedings (weigh your kitty with a ounces scale at least once every 2-3 days). Honestly, kittens should eat until they are full. Also, begin to put a litter box out and offer pans of soft kitten food for them to taste. Stimulate her to potty with a warm moist cotton ball every time you feed her. Bubbling at the mouth is a bad indication of fullness and means that too much is being taken into the mouth at once. if this occurs get a nipple with a smaller opening.

some kittens do this. pretty much for the same reason why some kids suck of pacifiers for longer than others. i've seen two male kittens do this to eachother daily. dont worry its not uncommon.

It's just like a baby sucking it's thumb. It's a soothing mechanism. He will likely outgrow this as he gets older. (Some cats suck on the tips of their own tails.)

Possibly to comfort himself, kittens sometimes try to suckle on humans too for a while after they leave their mothers. He will probably grow out of it, it's not a problem unless he injures himself.

Are you sure he's not just nibbling cause he's got fleas? That's most likely especially as he does it during the night as well
