I have never been on a cruise and am concerned about packing all the wrong things. I have several very nice outfits with capri pants and coordinating knit tops (not tanks or t-shirts) that I would like to bring to wear to dinner. Should I be shopping for skirts?

sounds like it is casual and meets the requirements. skirts are fine as long as they are also casual. try to stick away from any denim for restaurants that require a strict dress code.

i recently began cruising myself and i made the worst mistake of not bringing along enough casual clothes for dinner. they may very well turn you away from the more strict restaurants where the dress code is enforced so be sure to pack an additional set of casuals. can't go wrong taking along a pair of khaki's (shorts or pants) or two.

Capri pants and knit tops might be best suited for lunch in the main dining room, but not sooo much for dinner. As 'smart casual' is best translated as 'business casual', but still fun and flirty. Maybe long pants would be better, but I agree with another user's answer, not jeans. Consider packing a pair of khaki's with you and the capri pants and you'll see when you get there and get a better feel for what other people are wearing, plus you might be chilly in the dining room. The AC is usually blasting on a cruise no matter where it's going! For the formal night, you can get away with wearing a nice cocktail dress rather than going full-on gown. Got a little black dress? perfect!

Went on a holland american cruise and most women wore dresses to dinner and more formal wear to a couple of the "dressy" dinner nights..........you should have at least 1 really almost formal outfit. Holland America is a mostly older crowd, although there are many families on board. My mom has been on many HA cruises and she ALWAYS brings formal wear.

yes. remember you are on vacation. also check to see how many formal nights they have on the cruise. sometimes people don't dress that fancy and a simple cocktail dress will do
