I would live and let live. It has more reason to fear people than us it. Rattlers try avoid people and to warn you when you get near it. If one was near my home I would call a local wildlife rescue/help group to come move it further away to keep pets, people and the snake safe. What do you think would happen to the rodent population if the snakes were killed?

There have been many times that a rattlesnake was crossing the road and I've aimed for it just for the simple fact that there's a possibility that it could bite someone. It's the same thing with spiders. The spider's just sitting there minding its own business until I kill it with a shoe. I'm sorry, but I'd rather kill a spider than have to deal with the hospital bill when it turns out that spider was poisonous.

Before I had dogs, I would have left it alone. But now, if the snake comes too near, the dogs would probably try to attack it. Since the dogs can't be counted on NOT to bother the snake, I'd have to intervene in order to keep the dogs safe. If it is far enough away and the dogs don't see it before I do, then I'd steer the dogs away and make sure the snake didn't head towards them. There are so many snakes around here, but usually they don't hang out close to our home.
If the snake was in no way a threat to the dogs, I'd leave it alone. I might enlist my husband's help to relocate the snake if it was near our house and the dogs were not able to get at it at the moment.

I would probably try and call out the animal control if it was in my backyard. They will come and get it for you out here. I wouldn't go near it myself and even if I was brave enough, I doubt that I could kill anything unless it threatens me. If it is just on the side of the road or in the wild, I wouldn't bother with it at all.

I wouldn't kill it if I saw it on the side of the road, or in the wild. However, if it was in my backyard, or anywhere near me or my kids... I would be having rattlesnake for my next meal...

No way! I love snakes, even poisonous ones. I always did my very best to avoid killing any. At college in Colorado, one time there were little ones migrating or something, there were a *lot* of tiny rattlers crossing the road and getting hit by cars. Several classmates were happy to see each dead snake, but I felt terrible. There aren't any snakes where I live now.
I kill ticks, mosquito's, and the fleas on my cats. Anything else lives, I don't even kill wasps, spiders or flies that come indoors but I put catch them alive and put them out instead.

I would leave it alone and undisturbed. The rattlesnake has it's place in the local ecology. A rattler's principle prey is mice and other small rodents.

I wouldn't kill it if I saw it on the side of the road, but if it was in my backyard, or anywhere near me or my kids...yes. I would probably make my husband do it. I kill bees for him, and I think his job of killing spiders for me should include snakes.

No. If it is not near anyone or anything, then let it be. If it was in my area I would get someone to come get it and put it somewhere else. It's an animal!

If you saw a bomb, say on the side of the road while you are driving, or in the wild, or even in your own backyard, would you pull it's fangs, even if it was not bothering anyone? What would you do?
Put the question in the same perspective....
