Tell me what made the change in my life.
My Grandmother was a full blood Black Dutch Rumnachill.You know this race to be Gypsy, a name that was rightfully pinned on us because we would gyp people out of their money.
Usually the elderly.
I remember working for an old man who paid me in cash.His money was kept in a container which he was trying to conceal and pay out of at the same time.Each time he turned his back on me to get out more money I would take a portion of what he gave and put it in my pocket.I did this until most of his money was gone.His last words were "now I don't have enough to buy my tags".
It was not long after this that I gave my heart to the Lord and my life changed from darkness to light.Since then I work for the elderly and needy for little to nothing if need be.My people make fun of me for this, but I will never go back to that shameful life again.
God called me out and here is where I stand today.

SO WHAT WAS THE POWER BEHIND THIS CHANGE THAT WAS MADE?

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT THIS ACT WAS SOMETHING THAT I WAS TAUGHT TO DO. IT WAS PART OF MY CULTURE AND I HAD NO CONSCIENCE AGAINST IT. AS A MATTER OF FACT IT WAS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF AT THE TIME. BUT GOD MADE ME ASHAMED OF MY PRIDE.

ONE OTHER THING. I COULD ONLY READ AT PROBABLY A SECOND GRADE LEVEL. WE TRAVELED AND AVOIDED SCHOOL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.I HAD NEVER READ A BOOK WHEN I CAME TO KNOW THE LORD AND HAD NEVER BEEN A MEMBER OF ANY CHURCH.

I HAD NO CONSCIENCE, THAT IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO TELL YOU.

IF ANY OF YOU HAVE A THUMBS DOWN FOR ANSWERING, ITS NOT FROM ME. THIS QUESTION WAS NOT MEANT TO CAUSE ARGUMENT OR BELITTLE ANYONE OF YOU.

I to feel terrible about the old man to sister.He lived in the country.I tried hard to remember where he lived but could not find him.There were others that I found and I did what I could to make restitution and ask their forgiveness. I was amazed at how kind they all were.

Its funny how everyone says, It was your conscious, isn't it?
I was a drug addict. I was addicted to prescription drugs, mainly zanax. Once, I could not get my hands on the drug and my body went through withdrawal and I had a seizure.
After the Lord opened my eyes one day, as I was standing in my bathroom starring at myself in the mirror.....I finally saw who and what I had become. At that moment, I litterly cried out to God to help me! Within 5 minutes, my mother walked into the room, took me to her home, where I stayed and never went back to drugs again. The Lord heard me, of all people!
I NEVER had withdrawal symptoms. Never!
I don't think that was my conscious.
That, could only be, My Lord and Savior, Jesus!

The renewed man acts upon new principles, by new rules, with new ends, and in new company. The believer is created anew; his heart is not merely set right, but a new heart is given him. He is the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. Though the same as a man, he is changed in his character and conduct. These words must and do mean more than an outward reformation. The man who formerly saw no beauty in the Saviour that he should desire him, now loves him above all things.

I would guess that conscience was the change, but I'd like to point something out to you:

I've never "gyp'd" anyone out of anything, so there hasn't been any major change that turned me from a criminal to a "saint". But I do regularly volunteer my time, particularly during the holidays, helping the needy, and I also do work with Hospice when time allows.

Seeing as how I'm an atheist, what do you think is the power behind that? Obviously it's not your god.

Our church serves a community of Gypsies in Romania. They truly live a VERY destitute life. We are (with God's ABUNDANT help) helping them to gain a better life, by building churches that help with food, and other services that are MUCH needed in the community!
God has done a Mighty work in your life & that is clearly seen in many ways! Too bad so many of the responders only "see" it as guilt! **sigh** But the "world" cannot "see" or discern that which God does all around them! Amazing actually when you can "see" & they cannot. But the Scriptures confirm that!

Isa 6:9 - He said, "Go and tell this people: "'Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'

Mr 4:12 - so that, "'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'"

God didn't make you do anything. What you was doing was wrong and you knew it so you had a guilty conscious. You just used an imaginary God to break away from a lifestyle that anyone would know was wrong. You do not need a God to be moral all you need is a conscious. Your God and all religion is nonsense. Gypsies does not mean to gyp people. There are many honest people who are gypsies. It just means they are a people who travel without a homeland scattered throughout the world.

Uhh, the change was that you decided to stop being a petty thief and get your life together. With or without a God that is easily accomplished as long as you have will power. Maybe you finally realised that what you were doing was hurtful and that the person needed that money too.

I'm not sure why you heard God, but you should try some medication for that.

Don, I think it took a lot of courage to talk about this. I believe God saw something in you, used you to convert your family from that lifestyle. What a joy to know that you brought someone to the Lord.
I feel sad for the old man though and I know you do too since you are helping the elderly.
