can anyone summarize th book of Ruth in the catholic bible for me?

Well, it is a nice story. A young woman (Ruth) seduces an older, rich relative (Boaz) by sneaking into his bed while he slept. Her mother (Naomi) told her just how to do it, too. Wait until he is sufficiently drunk and then "uncover his feet." The scheme worked, Boaz married Ruth, and everyone lived happily ever after.

Most people when reading the book of Ruth must think something like this: "This is a nice story. What's it doing in the Bible?"

Ruth is in all Bibles except Jefferson's.

It starts out outside of Israel. Ruth's husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law die. Ruth loves her mothe-in-law and doesn't want to leave her alone. They head towards Bethlehem, her mother-in-law's original home. Ruth gathers some discarded grain so she and her mother in law don't starve, and then seduce's her mother-in-law's brother-in-law on her mother-in-law's instructions. She is then sold to the man (Boaz) along with her father-in-law's old land. They marry and she gives her first child to her mother-in-law.

Not very spiritual, but decently literary.

Ruth is about 6-8 pages long, why don't you read it yourself?
