Before we become aware of God, God prepares us to turn to him. Jesus said, "No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me." (John 6:44; see also Jeremiah 31:3; 1 John 4:10) These, and other Scriptures, clearly show that God works in our hearts long before we have any inclination to turn to him. Even the amidst the tattered shreds of our sinful existence, as fallen creatures totally incapable of even desiring to turn to God, the Holy Spirit creates within us a desire for God. This activity of God's grace takes place long before we are conscious of it; indeed, we are often under the impression that our returning to God is something that we do spontaneously, entirely of our own volition. Quite the contrary, scripture makes it plain that it is God's gift of grace which, initially, sparks are thought, interest, and desire to come to God.
Having come to God, it is His will to sanctify us, to make us fit to serve Him and to enjoy His presence in eternity. "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification." I Thess 4 v.3 This is the plan of God for us and His loving purpose for our eternal lives.

In old Geneva, a Calvinist and an Arminian preacher agree to exchange pulpits for a a week. So naturally their coaches meet each other on Sunday morning, and they stop to exchange greetings
"Do you realise," says the Calvinist "that it has been ordained for all eternity that you would preach in my pulpit this Sunday?"
"It has?" asks the Arminian.
"Certainly."
"Are you absolutely certain?"
"Beyond all doubt."
"Right," said the Arminian. "Coachman! Turn us around. I'm going back to bed."
