Secular humanists believe in reason and ethics, and involves a rejection of the supernatural. Atheists simply don't believe in God, there are no other criteria. You can be atheist and celebrate whatever you want.
Most atheists are humanists, but not all. There are pagans, Buddhists and Taoists, who do not believe in God but aren't secular humanists, and Deists, who believe in God but have a secular humanist approach to things.

A secular humanist is someone who puts people before most everything else (including god).
An Atheist can be a secular humanist, but doesn't have to be. A secular humanist could just as easily be religious as non-religious.
An atheist is simply someone who doesn't believe in god or gods. Nothing more. An atheist is free to celebrate whatever he/she wants with whomever he/she wants.

1. Atheism and Secular Humanism are answers to different questions. Atheism concerns itself with whether or not there is a god. Secular Humanism tells us how we should act with one another.
The two often go hand in hand. I consider myself both. But a person can be an atheist and have a different moral system. And a person can be a theist and still be a secular humanist. In fact, the first secular humanists were Christians.
2. You can celebrate whatever traditions you want.

Atheist is a negative descriptor. It describes something you don't believe in. Secular humanist is a positive descriptor, it describes something you do believe in.
Secular humanism is a nontheistic philosophy. You can be a secular humanist and an atheist. Most secular humanists are also atheists. Learn a bit about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secular_humanism
Atheists don't have to abstain from holidays, they just don't believe in the supernatural things holidays are supposed to represent.

an earthly humanist is any individual who places persons previously than lots the entire element else (including god). An Atheist may well be an earthly humanist, notwithstanding does not might desire to be. an earthly humanist could merely as merely be non secular as non-non secular. An atheist is easily any individual who does not experience in god or gods. not something greater effective. An atheist is unfastened to have relaxing something he/she needs with whomever he/she needs.

Secular humanism is more of a philosophy. Atheism is merely disbelief in a deity. Many, though not all atheists, are secular humanists.

its an overlap. you can be an atheist but not a humanist, and you can be a secular humanist but not an atheist, or you can be both. its like a dog can be a house pet, but a house pet doesnt have to be a dog and a dog doesnt have to be a house pet!

An atheist is someone who doesn't believe in gods. That's it. Secular Humanism is a collection of... well, ideals and principles, I suppose.

"Secular Humanist" defines what one believes. "Atheist" defines only what one does not believe (a god or gods).
