Recently, I needed some dirt to be delivered to my house. I started calling around to local business, and always got the "we'll call you back".

Then, as I'm working my real job, I got a call from a co-worker saying her husband just happens to have a landscaping business and it would be no problem to deliver some dirt. Her husband saw the caller-id and knew that is where his wife worked and was interested...

I call off my search, assuming I'll have some free dirt soon.

Well one week goes by, no dirt. I remind her.."Oh sure sure, I'll remind my husband, I know he's been busy"

Two weeks go by, still no dirt. I remind her again..."Yeah, He's been real busy, but I'll remind him again".

Still no dirt after three weeks. Now I have a bad taste in my mouth. Not only do I have no dirt, but I've wasted three weeks of time chasing this seemingly dead end.

How should I handle this situation?

There is no use wasting any more of your time. I say move on and start calling around for someone who will deliver. You can tell your co-worker to forget about it as it's taking way too long already.

How totally annoying!

Start calling around again - find a landscaper that will bring the dirt. Tell your coworker that you have found someone who can take care of what you need and let it go at that.

Try not to be too annoyed with your coworker - you'll still be stuck working with her long after the dirt arrives and you don't want to have bad feelings between the two of you just because her husband is an irresponsible businessman.

Good luck getting that dirt - I know how frustrating it can be to get a seemingly simple task like that done!

Your co-worker isn't going to come through. Cut your loses and go back on the hunt again. Don't bother bringing it up to your co-worker again, she won't come through and it'll just become a sore spot. Who needs that at work.

Go back to the local businesses, but be firmer this time. Ask them why it's always the run around. Get someone who's higher up (in the dirt game!) on the phone and talk to them. Call a different landscaping company. Why not? It's your project, your money, and you need it to get done! Don't advertise to your co-worker if you go to a competitor though. And don't apologize for it either.

You need to start your dirt search again, I'm sure your co-worker thought she was helping but she has no control over whether her husband will deliver or not. Maybe the husband has an issue with providing free services.

Go dig a BIG hole in your co-worker's back yard. I bet they will never do anything like that to anybody else....... And you'll have your dirt!

You poor thing, I bet you never thought dirty work would be this difficult. I agree w/JM up here, just continue calling. But now be more demanding. Just say "hey can you help me or not? I do not have 3 more weeks to waste." Especially with winter coming in, landscaping can not be any easier.

Best of luck crazy cucumber. :o)

I would say just make other arrangements and inform your coworker. "It seems like he's really busy, so I just wanted to let you know that I'm making other arrangements, so he won't have to worry about it anymore."
