Well I'm going to NYC this winter to spend the holidays, it's my first time being there and I have no idea what to expect weather wise.
I don't know what to pack and what to wear. I'll be there for two weeks Dec 20 Jan 3.
What are you guys expecting over there by that time? It is going to be really cold this year? Since I live in Florida I don't know what should I buy and I think I really need help.
My friends say that it can get to be very cold and I need to be prepared.

Thank you guys!

you can't ever predict just how cold it will get, but generally speaking, expect daytime temps to be around 35 and nighttime temps to be around 25. it may also snow. only you will now how well you will tolerate the cold, but at the very least, wear a warm coat, a hat, a scarf, and about 2-3 thin layers underneath. proper layering is the key to feeling comfortable under most conditions. you may also want appropriate shoes.

if you are coming up from florida, you may not have much selection of cold weather clothing, in which case, you may actually be better off coming up here with what you can wear to keep warm, and do your winter clothes shopping here. you will have the best selection and the best prices. also, if you are here for only 2 weeks and don't want to bring winter clothes back to florida, you might consider buying second hand clothes at a thrift store or at Salvie's (Salvation Army), and then just bring them back when you are finished. (you probably can't sell them, but your clothing expenses should be minimal.)

have a nice trip!

Hard to say. Two weeks ago, it was 80 degrees here. Yesterday it was in the 50s, today nearly 60, and tomorrow it's going to be in the 40s.

It can be VERY cold in New York in December. (I know, Florida's idea of "chilly" is 60 degrees. LOL!) It could be five below zero, it could be 50 degrees. (Both have happened!) You should bring some layering pieces (long sleeved shirts, sweaters, etc.) and a warm coat and gloves. Worst case senario - you can always buy warmer stuff here.

The weather at that time can vary thanks to all this global warming! For example - it is 62 today, but is going down to the 40's over the weekend.

The best thing to do is pack layers - which is also helpful when you are going in and out stores and restaurants.

It will be colder than Florida though! It can range anywhere from 40 - 10 degrees at that time of year. You will need a warm coat and leave your flip flops at home!
