the declaration of Independance is a Deist phrases. whe he refers to the 'Creator' and the ' pursuit of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness ' those are deist thoughts

here is the whole quote:
I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology.

Jefferson also wrote his own deist bible. John F Kennedy once said at a state dinner:
I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.

It took more than a heathen like Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence. No one knows for sure the author but many things are written about many papers from different colonies being put together with committees. John Hancock would have made sure he had input into it. "Nature's God" and "endowed by their Creator" sounds like a Christian got in there somewhere.

He also had sexual relations with his slave, Sally, and she bore him several children. Those childrern were not treated like the white children he had with his wife.
Thomas Jefferson definately had some issues even though he did write the declaration of independence. He wasn't perfect that is for sure.

Perhaps the operative word is "orthodox".
Religion can be fluid in it's interpretation. Perhaps a more progressive form of Christianity has lots of redeeming features.
He was also a big proponent of separation of church and state, maybe it was in reference to that.

Just because he wrote the Declaration of Independance doesn't mean he is infallible and knows everything!
Too bad a great man like that missed the true meaning of life...............

Just because someone refuses(d) to believe God, this does not mean they cannot be brilliant or gifted in life.
It does prove that intelligent people do not necessarily find God, that even they can be blinded by the god of this world.
