I want to lose 80 lbs within say 6 months. I exercise atleast an hour a day at the gym, but I think my diet either has too many calories or I'm just not eating the right things. What's a good basis to go by when on a diet? I drink a lot of water, but I do want this weight to be gone fast.. what can I eat and what foods are great for certain meals?

Does anyone have a Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner regiment that's pretty simple to follow? I plan on going grocery shopping tomorrow and would like a game plan.. I don't feel my current diet is effective.

Congratulations on your awesome goals to become a healthier person.

I do think, however, that 80 pounds in 6 months may be too much loss. I think 30-40 pounds in 6 months is healthier and a more reasonable goal.

The basic idea in losing weight is taking in less calories than your body burns on a daily basis. Your body has a set maintenance level of calories it burns. You want to eat 500 calories below that number. You need to find your basic metabolic rate (BMR):

Men: BMR = 66 + (13.7 X wt in kg) + (5 X ht in cm) - (6.8 X age in years)

Women: BMR = 655 + (9.6 X wt in kg) + (1.8 X ht in cm) - (4.7 X age in years)

Note: 1 inch = 2.54 cm.
1 kilogram = 2.2 lbs.

Example:
You are female
You are 30 yrs old
You are 5' 6 " tall (167.6 cm)
You weigh 120 lbs. (54.5 kilos)
Your BMR = 655 + 523 + 302 - 141 = 1339 calories/day

Eat veggies, any and all greens, low fat and low sodium soups, chicken, turkey, fish (stay away from beef and pork), whole wheat bread, nothing friend, try egg beaters (instead of real eggs), no milk (not even 0% fat), no soda, no juice, no beer, and of course, lots of water.

Your diet is the most important element in losing weight. Even if you have the best workout plan, if your diet is not right, you will not see results.

Good luck!

The most you can SAFELY lose is 2 to 3 pounds a week. Any more than that is water loss and muscle mass loss. Those are not good.

And don't think of this time as a diet. Think of it as a life change. Because it will add years to your life.

1) fruits and veggies, all you want, raw, steamed or sauteed
2) grains and nuts (walnut are great, almonds)mixed whole grain bread. no white processed flour
3) limited or no meats
4) nothing fried
5) no fast foods
6) no processed foods (if you can't read it don't eat it)
7)no dairy
8) nothing white
9) lots of water (gallon a day) put some at home, some in your car some at work. You will know where every bathroom in town is located. If you are hungry ....drink
10) CALORIES IN CALORIES OUT
11) EXERCISE.

12) MODERATION

Supplement could be Omega 3 and B-12 and Juice Plus+
