Then they said I was an athiest and said i was going to hell and saying all this mean stuff

Welcome to fundamentalist religion. A lot of fundamentalists also seem to lack the mental capacity to discern between agnosticism and atheism. Tragic, but unfortunately unavoidable....

You have run into a self righteous christian. They are trying to make you feel bad so they can feel better about themselves because they know they are not perfect. If you are in doubt about God then I encourage you to keep asking, seeking and knocking. There are a lot of Christians that are very self righteous, they feel after they have given there life over to Christ that they no longer have to deal with their sin nature. That is so wrong even after someone gets saved they still have a sin nature that tries to pull them down. That is why we must go to the cross everyday and confess how much we need Jesus to help us and gives us strength.

That wasn't very nice. Just because you "don't know" doesn't mean you are an Atheist. Even if you were an Atheist it would still be rude.
Religion seems to be the #1 cause of disagreement and hatred in the world -- sad isn't it?

Some people have issues and, because they can't deal with them, dump their garbage on others to deal with and worry.
Just put your past experience with this crazy person in the: I am thankful that I am not like *that* and move on without worrying about it.
Take your time to figure out if you believe in a god or not, no rush.

Most religious people don't know anything to say except something hateful. They haven't been taught how. It seems many have not even been taught the old saying "If you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything at all" that most people have heard from parents.

That is not the way they are suppose to do that. If you don't know if you believe in God then you should become a christian and then it would not be a problem. Just ask Jesus to come into your heart and believe he died and rose again on the third day and then start reading his word.

it's a feeble attempt at mind control; they try to scare us into conformity.
don't worry about it. it says more about the patheticness of them than anything else. If any god exists, could it/they be anywhere near as narrowminded as they? of course not.
