Yawn! Well, Roy, if your intention was to show the breadth and depth of ignorance and stupidity on Y!A, you have certainly succeeded.
There are not millions of asylum seekers flooding Britain. The net increase in people seeking asylum in the first quarter of 2007 was less than 5,000. That's not millions, and it's a drop in the ocean compared to the 60 million population of UK.
There are in excess of 1 million legal immigrants from EU nations in UK. Are you confusing them with asylum seekers?
As for New Labour's 'plot' to retain power - how would 'flooding' the country with foreign nationals who don't have the right to vote help them electorally? Some of you really should think before you type.
SKUNK: I'm British and I'm not a second class citizen - perhaps it's just you.

I believe the Government - New Labour (if you please) were caught on the hop, as in they did no research about what would happen when Eastern Europe countries joined the EU, and now they have no way of stopping it. I am not against immigrants per se, but I just wonder how the infrastructure of this country will hold out, and the NSH, schools, and council housing - there are thousands of British people with no homes and that tragedy has not been addressed either. There are also a lot of people even in my home town who do not work and have been receiving benefits for a long time, long enough to get over any illness! And there are so many teenagers without or not willing to work for the mimimum wage, so the immigtrants do it. There is still a lot of children in this country living in poverty with drug addicted parents.for instance. I fear for this country I really do and for the immigrants in some areas who will get bullied, their children will get bullied. There is an overall impression given to our own people that immigrants reach this country, get a house and benefits for themselves and their children and they do not work. Some of that is true, but the locals are going to be furious, and short of civil disobedience, fights will happen. I would be interested to see your answers. Thanks for the question. Asylum seeking is different from being an immigrant. I meet lots of foreign people as I work for the local council and believe me some of them just ordinary people like me, just want to work and have a quiet life. I wonder tho' if I emigrated to East Europe what would life be like. And its different to those who choose to live in say Spain, or wherever, then even they come back when ill health strikes in old age.

erm not really.why don't you think b4 you open your mouth.most immigraitns come from eastern europe now due to eu enlargment and the ratio for real asylum seekers has actually fell every year for the last 3 and is comparable with that under the tories who if you remember were the ones who allowed the eu to become a border free zone in the first place

I do not think they were allowed in. They were trusted to behave lawfully and shown every regard for Human Rights.Even when they betrayed that trust, they were given access to legal representation, Medication, and benefits. They used this kindness to leg it into hiding with false credentials. Why do you think that there are so many law abiding Immigrants now getting embarrassed and angry ? It is because they are becoming the people who pay the price of distrust brought in by so many loaferish types.

Because they don't really know what their doing. They obviously have a plan but like all plans it will go wrong because of the law of unexpected consequences. Then watch the fun !!

What? In 2007 Q2 there were 4,950 asylum seekers in UK. Where do you get your figures from?

They haven't. There are usually about 25-26,000 applicants a year, so 'millions' would be about 80 years' worth at minimum.

Yawn. 20,000 applied last year, not "millions". Perhaps you can' t be bothered to distinguish asylum seekers from migrant workers? Still not millions though.

They see them as potential Labour voters.
It depresses the earnings of the indigenous population because asylum seekers and other immigrants are a source of cheap labour without them realising it. They think they are earning a fortune when compared to the earnings in their own countries.
A population that is dumbed down is easy to control.
