A good indicator are white spots in the back of the throat. Tonsillitis will just make your throat red without any white spotting. Strep is also usually associated with a fever.

Strep throut...hmmmmm no idea I have however heard of Strep THROAT

Best to go to the doctor because strep throat is only detectable by test.
