I've been doing some research on my family's history and was wondering how my paternal grandmother's brother would be related to me. He was my dad's uncle, but how would he be related to me?

Your parent's brothers and sisters are your aunts and uncles.

Your grandparent's brothers and sisters are your grand aunts and great uncles.

Your great-grandparent's brothers and sisters are your great-grandaunts and great-granduncles.

So the brother of your grandmother is your granduncle. (in some cultures, it is common to use the word "great" instead of "grand" so you may hear him refered to as your great uncle instead of grand uncle depending on where you live).

An uncle of your parent would be your great uncle. Greats apply equally to mother, father, aunt or uncle.
