No, chicken soup is fine, just don't over do the salt. That sounds like an old wives tale to me. I've had three children and ate anything and everything I wanted. My biggest baby was 7pounds, 15 oz. Smallest 5 pounds, 9oz.

Okay -- so chicken soup.

Chicken
Potatoes or pasta
celery
carrots
onions
chicken broth

These are the most common ingredients in chicken soup. Nothing there that's "harmful" -- however, canned chicken broth may be high in sodium (salt) and that can cause you to retain water.

If you are making the soup -- use a low sodium chicken broth. Don't add any other salt to the soup. Use a salt substitute is you need to.

Chicken soup is a great comfort food and I believe pregnancy counts as one of those times when comfort food is not only needed but should be required.

Have a great pregnancy. Your doctor is your best source of information.

I've had three pregnancies and ate chicken soup with all, but I must say that homemade chicken soup is better for you because it has less sodium than the canned soup. It's actually a lot easier to make than you would think. I can whip one together in about 30 minutes. It's a really nutritious meal for the both of you.

See site below under WATER WEIGHT for whole story. A can of chicken noodle soup (Campbells) has over 1,500 mg of salt. Site below tells how governor of Arnoldville (previously called California) says that coffee and salt make you retain water.

The coffee and beer is much worse for your fetus. Read the labels and see how all soups are loaded with tons of salt. Better to make your own foods. Other than salt chicken soup is not worse than other soups.

Chicken soup is great for you. Just do not over salt it. The salt is what makes you retain water.
Congrats on the baby

No, that is just silly! Chicken soup does have a lot of sodium in it, and a lot of salt can make anyone retain water, but it won't make the baby big. Eat what you like and what you crave!

no that is not true i have had 3 pregnacys and 4 kids thats crap unless a doctor tells you it is not healthy for you dont believe the hype. and there is nothing wrong with the baby gaining weight the baby needs all the weight it can gain just in case you are very stressed out and have a early birthing it wont have to stay in the hospital that long becasue it will have a good weight on it they usually let them go home when they are 5lbs. get the what to expect when expecting book and what to expect in the first year book it will help you.

Your coworker is an idiot. I think what they meant was to watch your sodium (salt) intake so you don't retain fluids. Truth is, this happens the last ocuple of months of your pregnancy anyway. The best thing to do to counteract it is drink plenty of water!

Enjoy your chicken soup!

Nooooooooooooooooooooo....I guess they said that because some soups contain too much salt...sodium....which too much of it is not good for you or the baby...you can also retain water and get swollen...which might happen at the end of your pregnancy anyway...
