Yes, they do eventually fall out, but they don't start until the child is about 5 years old. If you let your child's teeth rot out of there head, many problems can occur.

Their rotted teeth will likely cause infection which can be very painful and uncomfortable for anyone. Toddlers are cranky enough.

Baby teeth also serve many purposes. They need them to eat and talk properly and poor teeth can cause a child to have low self esteem and not smile or socialize as much. They also act as a guide for the permanent teeth to come in. If their teeth need to be extracted too soon, then it is likely that their permanent teeth will come in crooked.

It is best to start children on a regular brushing routine as soon as they have any teeth to brush. Poor hygiene habits are hard to break so chances are that they would continue these habits even when they have their adult teeth.

It has something to do with overcrowding. I read it somwhere if the baby teeth are pulled before the time they would actually fall out then the permanent teeth grow in too early and cause overcrowding. ? Oh, so root canals are more expenisve, and more money out of pocket for you. It's less for the dentist to pull them, but he's telling you no?? I don't know about that. It could be what you say. Or pulling the teeth may cost you more $$$ down the line to straighten out the permamnet teeth. Maybe they simply don't need to be pulled, and the dentist wasn't thinking in dollars. I've heard that kids drinking more bottled water is leading to more cavities. They are not getting the flouride they need from tap water. Get a second opinion. I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask another dentist how he feels.

if you dont take care of your teeth (baby teeth included) you can have some major health problems. Also, not all people lose all their baby teeth. I'm 16 and because of non-existent permanent teeth, I still have 2 baby teeth. I had the other 2 taken out a while back because they were dissolving.

Hope that helps.

The minute the children are old enough (about 30 months? to do their own brushing, they should be doing it with your supervision. The other answerers have given you links to good articles; one y'hooer relates her own child's experience. One of my friends recently footed the $3000 bill for her 7 year old niece to have root canals. The child's mom believed the baby teeth were still falling out, too early to begin rigorous dental hygiene.

Dental infections can be uncomfortable and interfere with learning, both at school and home. Dental discomfort interferes with learning to eat healthy snacks (try munching carrot sticks with bad molars). Without verbal skills to describe the discomfort, some children act out by reverting to baby habits (wanting "blankie" for example); others become quiet and withdrawn.

If you don't have money for dental care but don't qualify for medicaid, call your County Dental Society to inquire about programs for low income children.

The sooner the children develop good dental hygiene habits, the more likely they are to get through early childhood without any dental trauma. Healthy mouth and baby teeth set the stage for healthy permanent teeth to come in.

My guess is there is not a single dentist in the Y'hoo answers today ... I would guess that all of the answer people today are concerned parents who try to give their children the best possible start towards a life of health and good teeth.

It's very, very important to take care of your child or children's teeth and gums... Even though the young primary teeth do eventually fall out the gums and tissue need brushing.. Also, if the primary teeth are in bad shape that could effect the adult teeth.. Good luck

its very important cuz it can affect your adult teeth becuase the baby teeth tell the adult teeth where to come in. If the baby teeth are not there other teeth can move into the space and block the tooth that is suppose to come in. Also your teeth can affect your health even if its a child AND you dont want to get a infected tooth its a 100 times worse if they get a abcessed tooth very very painful and harmful to the body

The habits you learn as a child last you the rest of your life. My girlfriend just put 10K into her 4 year olds mouth to cap every tooth he had! And yes, they are all going to fall out! Too much sugar, not enough brushing!
