I had a dream last night that a tarantula was chasing me. I was running as fast as I could, and it was keeping up with me. It never touched me or anything, but I was terrified. Then later in the dream, I saw another huge spider. What does this mean?

Tuarantula represents something of a deception nature which if it attacks you will suck the life out of you. To bit by a spider represents falling under the influence of a deception. By the spider being a tarantula it means this deception is able to make it way to you and track you down usually through a person. Watch out for people who you know who have a tendancy to lie or decieve.

spiders and tarantulas have in common the number of legs which can say means people. Chasing you means that someone or something (gossip) is coming your way. Running fast is the ability of avoiding this situation and overcoming it. That it never touched you its good because it means that if you tried hard enough you are sure you will succeed. Being terrified is the feeling of the unknown. Be careful with what you say or do !

I wouldn't trust generic interpretations of dream manifestations from books. Everyone is different, cultures are different; the idea that anyone who dreams of a spider is thinking about good luck (or worse, that dreams really do cause future events) is a little hard for me to swallow.

That said, knowing little about you, but assuming you're American, I'd hazard a guess that spiders in general and tarantulas in particular are considered "Really Dangerous" (if you've seen James Bond, you're primed for that). They're also quite mysterious and have impenetrable minds. Even snakes are easier to fathom than spiders.

So what's happening in your life regarding a person you feel is inscrutable, hard to read, or cold/distant? Can you confront them and try to bring the issue out in the open?

Here's what I could find on Swoon:

Spider

Spiders in a dream are a sign of general good luck; to kill one signifies good news. If it was spinning a web, it augurs approaching money; if it was climbing a wall, it's a harbinger of success in all that concerns you most deeply.
