Does anyone know/understand how the Bible approaches the source/cause of mental illness, and how to go about curing it? Also, how do fundamental Christians, particularly Pentecostals, view psychotherapy? How does the church go about this whole therapy approach?

What I'm really looking for is some type of explanation as to why fundamental Christians under-utilize psychotherapy.
If you have any info specifically about Pentecostals, that'd be SUPER. Thanks!

In general, psychotherapy does not take into account that man comes into the world separated from God, and all maladies stem from this separation. (This truth stems from the Bible - that "the (human) heart is deceitful and desperately wicked", and "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God").

Depends on what church you are attending and what type of mental problem. Some pastors believe all mental illness stems from sin. Others believe it could be caused by someone else's sin (a parent, most likely). Others promote Christian counseling. Some are against the use of drugs to treat it (considered sorcery - "pharmacea" - I'm probably misspelling it) Also depends on what type of mental illness it is. A chemical imbalance could be different from depression or anger issues, for example. I am not a pentecostal, but used to attend pentecostal churches. I know I didn't say much about what the Bible says here. What comes to mind is the man who had a "legion of demons" in the New Testament and was obviously insane.

Umm... if you have a mental illness, the first thing I would suggest is to stop reading the Bible. Don't add on to the problem.
Go see a psychologist, and if the problem is physiological, drugs will be given. If it is completely in your head, then most likely you would be referred to a therapist...

Some cases of mental illness in the bible were caused by demons, but not ALL cases of mental illness was demonic.
It doesn't say why for all people, but it does for some.

Pentecostals (some), Christian Science and Scientology are probably the main ones who don't use psych services.
