Just act like no ones around... then just let it out! nice strong and proud. your results will be good, and people will love you for not only your voice but your confidence :)

hope that helps

It takes a lot of practice to go in front of an audience and sing, I never had problems with the power in my voice, but I used to get a really dry mouth and my heart would pound! I think you have to practice in front of friends and family to get a bit more confidence. You also have to start believing in yourself, sometimes I try to imagine myself at home - not in front of an audience - although after singing for the years I have done now - I'm more worried about my PA gear being set up and working OK, as I have conifidence in my vocal abilities. Another thing you could do is find a karaoke night - go and sing there - so you're not worried about forgetting words - and try to build confidence there. I'm sure you'll hear people who can't sing give songs a go too - but it will make you feel good about yourself!

Thanks to Davie Havoc many young people aspire to get into music -

I have been teaching rock songwriting vocals guitar for several years and played and lead sang many LA gigs-

I can tell you- in a band it's easier than giving a speech in public - but not a whole lot easier- there is a moment of trepidation- the fact is however- someone who is not nervouse probably won't have the energy to give a ripping performance either-

Songwriting is the doorway to singing- you can't really cut it by singing other people's stuff in this kind of rock music genre-

if you sing like celine Dion thats different- you can do Vegas! ha!

but if you want to be an original you gotta start by learning how to write -

believe me - MCR and AFI have written one heckuva lot of songs and porbably a lot more that you will never hear because they sucked- and were just learning how-

if you think you can walk on stage and blow minds - it's a great inspiration but it ain't easy - so
prepare, prepare, prepare
write a song a day -
sing into a cassette player try ideas- don't copy
screamo is already been done- try to be YOU
write lyrics ALL the time - carry a notebook and pen ALWAYS

I feel the same way, and I am in the same state. I to am suffering the same shyness thing ( amazing how we are the same age to)
So this is what you should try.
Close your eyes while singing and invision what you are singing,to the audience you look like you are passionate about it, but to you, you feel confident(and like your in a black room). Or just start of small and get bigger audiences. Or say "I sing good and I can do this" in your head a million times, it'll boost you up :)
Well, I never tried to sing in front a crowd yet (beause to shy D:), and I never tried these things, but I hope it will help you. A singer always starts of somewhere.......
hope you make it to a band one day!

Be as confident as you can. I suggest you firstly teach some of your favourite songs to your friends (if they don't know them already) and sing with them. Once you've mastered that, start working on your own. When you said you went "all quite and soft" you may have switched unintentionally in falsetto, so just keep working at it.

Well practice public speaking
Try and be energetic and optimistic about it
Rather than get shy and quiet
Think of those feelings as butterfly's and normal
Even Michael Jackson gets "Butterfly's" before he goes on stage
In fact anyone who says they don't is actually a liar tbh
Now just forget there there
or this may sound cliché but
pretend there in their underwear it gets rid of the embaressment from you onto them

Go for itt =))

Practice in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eye while you do it, practice in front of pets/stuffed animals. Mentally envision an audience in front of you. Practice in front of friends, siblings, parents, other family members. Just keep practicing. Performing does get easier the more often you do it.
