Owies, braces hurt :( But they are worth it when your teeth are all nice and straight :)
Some sort of painkiller for tooth aches or general pain (aspirin, ibuprofen)
Cepacol Max Strength lozenges (contains oral anesthetic)
or Orajel as someone already suggested.
And something I used to do that helped the pain of your teeth moving was chew gum. Make sure its a gum meant for people with braces or dentures. The orthodontist tells you not to chew gum but it does help with the itchiness and ache of newly tightened braces. Freedent is a good brand.

Pain killers, orajel, cold drinks. There is really no magic to getting rid of the pain. Braces just hurt. Guess what? They are probably going to hurt every time the orthodontist makes an adjustment. I don't mean to scare you or to be mean. It is just a fact of having braces and you should be prepared. I think the first time hurts the most though because your teeth have not been moved before.

It's normal take it from someone who had braces for 3 years. If it still hurts in a few days go back to your ortho
