Napoleon Bonaparte was the first to separate church from state. Thomas Jefferson traveled to France and was inspired and after returning home followed suit.

I agree there is a distinction between the separation of church and state, and the separation of church from politics. The church should not control the government as it used to do in Europe causing people to come to America in search of religious freedom. On the other hand I do not believe that the constitution bans churches from being involved politically. The founding fathers who came up with the idea of separation of church and state also invoked the name of God in many of our founding documents and principles.

I think Thomas Jefferson got credit for that one.
"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."-Thomas Jefferson

No one. If I am a Christian and I am and if they elect me to be a congressman or senator that just makes me a Christian Congressman or Christian Senator. Can't remove the Christian part from me and it will eventually show up somewhere. Same with any other job.
The old saying is, you can take the boy out of the country, but how do you get the country out of the boy?
Our forefathers were smart enough to know this, but since the Anti Christian Liberal Union (ACLU) everything seems to be changing. They say if you teach a lie long enough, it will eventually become truth. That is why Christ said, "I am truth" so you can't be fooled.

The writers and signers of the original constitution. It is not really separation. It is a statement of non recognition of religion as a state establisment.

The founders of our country did so, hoping to avoid the problems inherent in a state religion. You should have known this already, if you attended a public school.
