Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. A person who has had chicken pox can have the virus lay dormant in their body. If it becomes active again, usually later in life, it can cause Shingles. If you've had chickenpox, there is no way to predict if you'll get Shingles. Shingles can appear at any time without warning. Usually you can have an outbreak of Shingles if your immune system is run-down.
You can go to shinglesinfo.com to see pictures of the rash. The first signs of Shingles may include an itching, tingling, burning, or painful feeling. Usually this feeling will only be on one side of your body and may wrap around your torso or one side of your face. A few days later, you can expect to see a rash appear on the same area of your skin.
The rash usually takes up to 30 days to clear up. As the rash clears up the pain associated with the rash lessens. However, for some people, after the rash heals, Shingles may lead to pain that can last for months or even years (a condition known as postherpetic neuralgia, or PHN).

I had shingles for the first time when I was 8, and then kept on getting them (I'm kinda sickly, haha!) The stuff inside the blisters can cause other people to get shingles if they touch it. Keep your shingles covered up. Try not to scratch them incase it gets on your fingertips and you forget to wash them. If it itches or stings, lay your hand on a cold hard surface and it will help. Shingles are like 'adult chicken pox'. If you have had chicken pox once, you never do again - but you can get shingles. You get them due to stress sometimes which messes up your immune system. Keep it covered. Notify your neices mother and your friend, but they will most likely me alright unless they touched the blisters! But remember to keep a little distance from them until the shingles begin to heal. Hope they disappear soon!

If you have already had chicken pox in the past the virus can reactivate. When this happens you may develope shingles. Shingles doesn't act like chicken pox...it can follow the path of a nerve causing a lot of pain. You can not catch shingles but you can give someone who has never had chicken pox them...since the rash from shingles contains the chicken pox virus.

Shingles is a viral infection caused by the herpes zoster. The same thing that caused the chicken pox. When you were young and had the chickenpox, the antibodies were stored along the nerves of your spine. Sometimes later in life these are reactivated in the form of shigles. They can be brought out by an immunosuppressed body, stress, or several other factors. They usually appear around the trunk, lower back area and can be quite painful. They can last up to 6 weeks. It is important to see a DR. because they have creams, and analgesics for this condition.

Shingles break out like a rash around your body, You can get them just from being under a lot of stress to getting your immune system weak. They are worse on your face then anywhere else, my aunt is now legally blind because of them, they were terrible. Some docs says they are catchy and some they are not. Prayer is the best way not to catch them but if you do you are not alone, getting to the doc quick is the best meds.
