How do you repent for your sins?

let's ask first if people even know what repentance is or what the heck they should repent to and from.

the modern guy out there is taught that sin is friday and saturday night fun in which you must repent of it by sunday. they you go back to work and repeat the process next week, even though your priest/pastor condemns it every sunday. here's some examples of 'modern sin' according to various religious groups: smoking, drugs, alchohol and sex are all sin and the devil.

the Bible really says nothing of this sort...

I tell god I'm sorry, try to go confession, and then do penance, especially if it's a grave sin. if i can't do all of that, i try to make a good sacrifice like to give money to a homeless man, or be helpful at the office and accept little wrongs done to me by not complaining.

Sometimes too i will pray the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, The Divine Mercy or The Holy Wounds of Jesus.

The only way to repent of your sins is threefold. You must know that God's standard is perfection. Secondly, you must be sorry for your sins against God's law. Thirdly, you must, by your own will, ask God to forgive you of your sins through the sacrifice that His Son made on the cross for you. You must ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart of your own will.
