Does the Bible really say the earth was created 6000 years ago?

Like literally? Or is that just an interpretation?

Its a calculation based on the genealogy in Gen 5 & 11, and historical data from today back to the time of Abraham. The time Abraham was on this earth is disputed up to as much as 300 years.
From creation to Abraham's birth is accurate to within 1 year. From today back is where the dispute is. For a real good estimate see the site below. This guy has taken a serious look at this. His calculations place the age of the earth at about 6230 years old. Look at his charts.

Nowhere can we found in the Bible that says the earth is 6000 years old. Because the creator of the earth is an infinite God.

God has his own time & God was not limited by time.

2Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

No. It's just the assumption of those who take what is written literally. They calculate the time of Adam through the line of Patriachs, then the 7 days of Creation. Genesis could be a vague and edited version of much earlier though more scientific Sumerian and Akkadian accounts.

Yes, the bible actually said that......until the fundies started making "adjustments" to the bible in the face of inescapable scientific knowledge. I have a copy of the old testament from 1814 that gives yearly dates to ALL the major biblical events, including the creation of the earth, 4004 BC. And now the fundies, in an incredible display of dishonesty, want to try to deny that the bible said any such thing. How pathetic they are.

They mostly used begats to calculate the 6k.

But u can still use only the bible to discount the 6000 figure itself..

Besides we have factual historical proof (non-science too) that is proof that its at least 2-100 times older.

Early life forms started to 'evolve' on Earth around 4-3 billion years ago.

It is based on a reckoning of the lineage from Adam to Jesus in the OT, as calculated by a Bishop Ussher in the 19th century. So, as far as that goes, yes the period is biblical.

dispensations:
Dispensations
I. Introduction and Definition

A dispensation is a period of time which is identified by its relation to some particular purpose of God.

As used in the Greek New Testament, the word is OIKONOMIA (Strong's No. 3622) and is defined as a stewardship, administration, management, direction, arrangement, order, or plan.

Practically speaking, dispensationalism speaks of the differences between the administration of human affairs within the sequential divisions of human history.

1. From Adam to Abraham, for example, when God's administration of human affairs focused on the entire race as descended from Adam.

2. From Abraham to Christ, when God's administration of human affairs focused on one particular family, descendants of Abraham. During this period of time, or age, a distinction is drawn between two divisions of humanity--Jew and Gentile.

3. From Christ until now, and beyond for an undisclosed period of time; when God's administration of human affairs focuses on one particular people, comprised of Jew and Gentile alike in one body--the Church.
