Seriously, the bible (I know you are rolling your eyes) say that animals were created after their kind. A little criptic, but OK for someone that wants to believe in natural selection and God.
Mutations happen randomly as I understand. They are kept or discarded based on natural selection. Kind of like the way russians used to do elections:) anyway, can someone strip this idea out of a christians clutches?

rev. Mutations do not happen as a result of environment. the exception would be the teenage mutant ninja turtle cartoon

God loves variety
natural variation will come about if a black person sleeps with a white person
variation produces variety
mutations are changes to chromosomes which result in changes to dna,
does mutation lead to evolution, i think thats what you mean to say
Sickle cell anemia people have a diminished capacity to carry oxygen, get one to run for a bus and a train and they will tell you what they think about evolution
Mutations work with whats available to produce change
this is why you have sickle cell anemia, or gigantism which causes an enlarged pituitary gland resulting in excess HCG resulting in excess growth. It works with the genetic does thats already available, it does not add new information to it.
kinda why people just don't grow feathers and fly away
kinda why dinos did not turn into birds.
If you show me undisputed proof i would of course shut up.
so i can't cling to your theory and profess it as truth above everything else, why all the punctuated equilibira, why does the fossil record show no progression of linear development, instead they show lots of variety, and creatures with many specialized features. Did they have to wait millions of years for the features to develop, and if so, where are the fossils of the creatures that died millions of years before them,
or of those creatures turning into dinosaurs?
does that not worry you?
fossil record shows no transitional forms, but developed creatures buried in sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rock is deposited and pressurized by a layers of water, which is why its called sediment.
There is a little book which explains why fossils are always buried in sedimentary rock, but that would mean people have known the answer for thousands of years, making evo wrong, and people don';t want to hear that.
hmmm still trying to think of what event caused thousands of creatures to be buried simultaneously by sedimentary rock and water pressure?

There is no reason why natural selection can't simply be God's method for creating the world. The Bible is very vague... it tells the creation story in just a few simple verses-- not a lot of details. It's not ridiculous to imagine that evolution and natural selection are simply the "tools" that God uses to continually shape and reshape the world.

Just a little confused aren't you?
Mutations are mistakes in the genetic code which cause alterations in the physiology of the animals.
Most mutations are detrimental in some way, but rarely they benefit the species.
Natural selection is the survival of certain species because of their superior traits.
Mutations are not the vehicle of "Darwinian evolution" for many reasons.
A. not enough time
B.detrimental outcome of mutation
C.no additional information in genome from mutation that would be required to cause these changes
D. No inter-phyla transitional forms exist in fossil record

"They are kept or discarded " would connotate a deciding intelligence. Basicly, it either works or it doesn't. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how "systems" developed... or rather... "evolved".
When was the last time you saw a mutated human with 4 arms? Does that mean they could do twice the work of a normal production assembly worker and hence survive better by making more money? C'mon.... LOL

How do you know mutations are not a direct result of the fall of man? Are mutations good or bad?

If the mutations happen at random due to various environmental conditions, and natural selection works based on the behaviors of the organisms in question, then what purpose does God serve in the process?

This seems like a very interesting question that I would like to discuss. I too, see the bible for what it really is. But I don't really understand what you are asking. Feel free to Email me with a little more description

Any argument to exclude God from the equation would necessarily involve God... So I'd say the argument itself is fundamentally flawed.
