If A man were all powerful he'd feel no need to be worshiped. So does this mean God's motives are beyond human comprehension? That even the bible must fail to explain the mind of God?

I mean to say that God must have a different psychology than man. We are restricted from understanding his mind by the futility of our own.

Quiet, as a Schizoid personality even as an infant I did not show love to my parents. Yet they still unconditionally loved me.

Perhaps this negates the argument that God is like a parent who wants to be loved since he offers punishment as an alternative.

Reading your responses I'm questioning why we feel the need to attribute human motives and emotions to God. The results of doing so are entirely irrational.

"Love cannot share itself" That is pure silliness. Consider Narcissus or even better narcissism.

No man has ever had absolute power over everything. No man has ever seen the future and had the power to immediately change what he didn't like.

Your premise that if a man were all powerful he'd feel no need to be worshipped is empirically wrong. Ever hear "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"? Ever hear of Stalin, Mao, or Kim Jung Il? Hitler?

Assuming that you're specifically talking about the Judeo-Christian God, you are also wrong about God creating man to serve Him. How did you arrive at that conclusion? Christians generally believe that God created man to fellowship with Him. "In His image" and all that.

Yes, the Bible does fail to explain the mind of God--it only gives us hints as to His mind and character. His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. By very definition of HIs being God, He is incomprehensible to us.

It's men that tell you all those things, not God.

If you look at the Vedic Hindu Concept of "Deivehah nirguna nirakara", then God is sexless, beyond the conception by physical or mental faculties. Personally I think this is closer to the Truth than the Judeo-Hebraic Messianic Faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

The simple "Process of Elimination" used there is that if anything has a shape or qualities, it cannot be the Creator, ergo, the Creator [God] has to be beyond the ken of these faculties.

However, it's a very intricate thing to study this since it requires you to be able to perform mathematical calculations accurate up to sixteen decimal points!

But, that's another story.

Peace!

Some where in the bible it says, my thoughts are not your thoughts and my ways are not your ways. For as high as the heavens are above the earth so are my ways than you ways. God made a point and corrected us in thinking we truly know how he thinks. Man was created to be in relationship with the creator not just servants. When we think of servants to him it is always as a slave. No, that not what God intended nor wants us to be in that context. He calls us sons and daughters in the scriptures when we give our selves to him fully. As far as knowing his mind the apostal Paul acknowledged it is his Holy spirit that truly knows him and we know of him threw the Holy spirit. We do have to always make the choice to serve him (do right by) or the devil (world) in order to show whom do we love. God wants his created beings to love him not out of force but returned love out of choice. Remember He first loved us, even the prophet Isaiah was revealed the fact that , ALL LIKE SHEEP HAVE WENT A STRAY, EVERYONE TO HIS OWN WAY. This is so true when we look at it threw the mind and eyes of God.

Its not a matter of us serving Him... but His desire for us to love Him.

Real basic, short version that might help.

G_D is up there before all creation, just Him and angels. Angels have to worship Him as they are created that way. Well as humans we can see how old and boring that would get real fast, someone having to worship us.

So G_D thought, I'll make a creature that can choose to love me or not. And if they choose to love me, then I know without a doubt that they do love me, unconditionally. Just as parents love their children.

The only thing G_D wants from us... to crawl up in His lap, love Him and let him put His arms around us to protect us. Just as a dad would to a 5 yr old son who scuffed his knee and was crying. That is all He wants from us... love.

Not serve, to be companions and to keep him busy, to keep him company and eventually get to know him.

Why do people have imaginary friends?
God needed something more than that, hence humans were formed.

Quiet.Bu.... seems to have the idea right. Cheers

Peace.

I guess since God is all-powerful, he created man to serve him because he's got a bloated ego.
