How about:
Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake
For the cake:
1 18.25-ounce box yellow cake mix
1 egg
1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter
For the filling:
1 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 15 ounce can pumpkin
3 eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 16-ounce box confectioner' sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter
Mix together the cake ingredients and press into the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan.
With a mixer, combine the filling ingredient together until smooth and pour on top of the cake mixture. Bake at 350º for 40 minutes. Should be a little jiggly when you remove it from the oven.
Serve with whipped cream and enjoy.

christy j, found this recipe on the web this year, and have all ready made it at least 6 times since fall started. this is a new twist on an old idea and i guarantee no one else will show up with this item and next year people say christy are making the pumpkin whoopie pies like you made last year. for the recipe and directions go to www.andreasrecipes. com . i am a retired baker and the recipe and the directions are easy to follow. i looked a several recipes but this was the best and easiest. i make them with size 20 scoop they suggest if you don't have one go to a restuant supply they are cheap and will last for ever. with the size 20 you can get 20 on a regular home sheet pan,and it takes 2 sheet pans, and the batter comes out even your baking time could vary some let them get just a little tan to the eye a bout 15 min.
the filling is easy to make and can be put on the cookies by hand ,scoop or pastry bag, i have done it all 3 ways. there is plenty of filling to go around, i start light and get heavier toward the end, the go back and put more on the ones at the begining. they are really yummy and easy please try them you won't be sorry! good luck bacondebaker !

HI - Spicy sweet potato pie is terrific, not too time consuming and perfect for Thankgiving. You boil 3 lbs of sweet potatoes until tender then peel and mash them with 4 T butter, 7 T of brown sugar, 1 c milk, and 1/4 t each of cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Put it in a greased casserole dish in a 400 degree oven for 30 mins. Yummy -

Martha Stewart

Williams Sonoma
http://www.williams-sonoma.com
those are both full of recipes
I am glad to hear the grown-ups are finally trusting you !!! I would make a savory custard with creamed corn and thyme ....and relish of cranberry and fresh orange ...a big unfrosted gingerbread (12 x 17, say ) or Williams Sonoma has a fresh ginger cake that might do
Martha Stewart has pomegranate punches, etc ... pretty !

How about a twist on the classic dessert? Instead of pumpkin pie try Pumpkin Eater Bars.
Pumpkin Eater Bars
Crust:
2 cups oats
2 cups flour
¾ t salt
¾ t baking soda
1 cup butter or shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
¾ cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
Filling:
2 cups pumpkin puree (16 oz. can)
2/3 cup milk
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 T Pumpkin Pie Spice (or blend of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, etc.)
1. Mix crust ingredients until crumbly
2. Press half (or slightly more) of crust mixture into bottom of greased 9x13 pan, bake 10 min. at 375.
3. Mix filling ingredients, pour on top of baked crust, sprinkle remainder of crust mixture on top.
4. Bake 30 min. at 375, until golden.
It´s a big hit whenever I make it--great hot, cold, with ice cream, whipped cream, Cool Whip...inevitably disappears!
Also good with squash puree instead of pumpkin.

You're a great cook, what's your specialty?
What do you like to cook? What do you want to be known for?
We can all suggest different dishes, but do the one that shows you want to bring some love to the table!

My favorite to take to Thanksgiving dinner is Pecan Pie. Pies are inexpensive, plus everyone enjoys pie.
