Primary windings receive input energy and convert to oscillating magnetic field.

Core intensifies and transmits the magnetism.

Secondary windings convert the magnetic energy to electric energy.

The three components are; primary winding; secondary winding; iron core, an ac voltage applied to the primary induces a voltage in the secondary in proportion to the turns ratio of each of the two winding, the iron core increases the efficiency of this process. A welding transformer on mains voltage converts the 240v to a much lower voltage say 10v a ratio of 24 - 1, therefore increases the current able to be draw by 24 as this is needed to create the energy required to melt the welding rod and fuse together the metal to be welded

3 components?

wire and Laminations only 2 items

we hardly see the bobbin as a major component
(nothing electrical ...only safety)
