Someone just had the nerve to tell me I was not "Mexican enough". I do not physically nor economically fit the status quo for a Mexican, supposedly.

Why is it that most people have a bad view of Mexicans? Is it because most Mexicans give the rest of us a bad name due to their actions..? I'm so tired of having to defend my heritage.

I admit, sometimes I get embarrassed when others ask me what nationality I am. Their reactions make me so uncomfortable. They kinda do a double take, and they themselves admit they would never have guessed I am Mexican. I know that most of the time they're wondering if I snuck into their country. (Which I did not!) >:(

I don't envy you. I've been stuck like you once. You are caught betwwen to racist group. The La Raza type who believe the superiority of the "fifth" race and the White supremicist. I seriously doubt any of those who claim your not Mexican enough, knows what being Mexican is about. I think respecting others is on the list of true Mexican culture, which these guys obviously don't believe. I see it alot in LA. Those born in the ghetto look around and see others acting like them and think it's what being Mexican is about, rather than ghetto culture.

Just be your self and don't mind these people.

As for not being proud of your heritage, first I was once criticized that I don't advertise that I am AMerican, and it's true. Being white has nothing to do with being AMerican. It's part of your heritage as well. AS for people looking down at your Mexican heritage, I feel sorry for you. Racism will always exist and your an easy target. There has always been a caste system in the US, and since Mexicans are most likely perform the low skill labor, people equate tat with inferiority. Ithe Irish and Italians had to go through the same thing. THey still suffer some prejudice, but with their increase success, it has severely diminished. The problem is that Mexicans are still immigragrating here, and so the Mexicans do not have the opportunity to lift their entire community and show their worth. As long as large scale immigration occurs, American imagery of the Mexicans will continue to be that of subservient to the other ethnic group. It will improve as tie goes by, but unfortunately your problesm will never go away. Just remember ot to turn into those who treated you badly. If you stay on this site, you will find plenty of bitterm vengeful and racist Mexican who use this site to get revenge for the racism that they endure. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I would assume (but can't verify my opinion) that people have a negative view because of current immigration issues. There are a lot of illegal immigrants in this country (not just from Mexico) that are getting benefits that citizens cannot get. Because of the current problems with illegal immigrants from Mexico, people are incorrectly putting the two together and assuming Mexicans are getting health insurance and we're not, etc. There is also the issue of so many Spanish speaking people in the U.S. to the point that everything is bilingual, and they may be attributing it to the Mexican population; when people expect you to speak a language other than English in an English-speaking country, they get irate and blame it on these issues.

It's a racial stereotype; every race gets it (including the white Caucasian Americans). Next time someone asks you what nationality you are, ask them why they want to know. You're under no obligation to tell them anything, and if it makes you uncomfortable, you shouldn't tell them anyway. I think what the person told you was very arrogant and stupid.

I have friends who are from Mexico, legally, and my nephew is Mexican as well. All of them are lovely people who are just as disgusted with the illegals thing as are all Americans. You should never be ashamed of your heritage at all. You are a perfect example of what kind of people many Mexicans are. If anything you and those like you help to stop the stereotypical beliefs that all Mexicans are illegal and mean to do harm. I can understand your feeling of regret, but just educate those who are surprised by you. All ethnicities get a bad rap over what the worst of them are doing. You are not alone in this arena.

Some day everyone will be united in the worship of the one true God, Jehovah. Notice in Isa. 11 in the passage that I will quote, that because the knowledge of God has filled the earth, we will enjoy the peaceful conditions therein. (Isaiah 11:6-9) "And the wolf will actually reside for a while with the male lamb, and with the kid the leopard itself will lie down, and the calf and the maned young lion and the well-fed animal all together; and a mere little boy will be leader over them. 7 And the cow and the bear themselves will feed; together their young ones will lie down. And even the lion will eat straw just like the bull. 8 And the sucking child will certainly play upon the hole of the cobra; and upon the light aperture of a poisonous snake will a weaned child actually put his own hand. 9 They will not do any harm or cause any ruin in all my holy mountain; because the earth will certainly be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah as the waters are covering the very sea." So my answer is yes.

I think if they say that they would admit they would have never guessed you are Mexican, they are just saying you don't fit the physical stereotype. It is a clumsy thing to say, but I don't think they mean any harm by it. They just don't know what saying that means to you. I think a lot of people say that to others when they don't look or speak in a stereotypical way.

You don't have to hide your heritage because some people are rude without knowing they are. Everyone gets that to some degree, whether it's race, nationality, ethnicity, socio-economical status, etc.

Same thing here too. I defintely dont fit the economical status and even though my parents are one full blooded Mex and the half Mex and half American I was born, raised and taught in Texas. I've never known people of my race to be much involved in the biotech field as I am so I really havent had much contact with other Hispanics in years yet everyone calls me the litle Mexican girl and have been discriminated by both blacks and a few white mostly European doctors which is cool whatever. But when i visit my family I jsut dont know how to interact with them since I've never interacted with the Mexcian culture along the border. In the end..is it really worth worrying about? I dont think so...my bills are paid..i live an awesomelife due to my hard work and thats really all there is to it.

Be proud of who you are and where you parentage comes from. Who cares what ignorant people think? You are only not Mexican enough if you deny who you are and where you come from. What would prevent me from being white enough? If I think all the people trying to sideline our attention with their bad immigration ideas are ridiculous and ignorant, does that make me not white enough? Ignorant people want to categorize everybody and everything because its the easiest way for them to approach and comprehend the world. It helps them to capsulize things and not open their minds to the broad picture. And hon it's not the illegals that are giving you a bad name, but the little thuglets walking around that are citizens and are constantly mistaken for illegals. Those are the guys that were born here and sit on the system letting the govt take care of them while they think up ways to exploit other people. But its not unique to your race. Its just a very common misconception. Embrace yourself and your heritage.

We have a negative view of all of our invaders - there are just more mexicans. What they probably meant when they said you weren't mexican enough was because you have excellent English language skills. Wish they were all like you!

Yes, they are giving the rest of you a bad name.
