This is a complex question dependent upon many factors. The first thing we must know is the running capability of the dog under ideal conditions of weather and terrain. If the size of the forest is sufficient to be greatter than twice his running capacity, then his running capacity represents a limiting factor. Otherwise, under ideal conditions, the upper limit would be 1/2 the diameter of the forest, assuming a cirucluar forest. if it is elliptical or some other shape, the point of entry must also be considered. However terrain and climate will further reduce the running distance, for example, the presence of mountains, canyons and rivers in the forest, along with extreme fluctuations in temperatue, such as a sudden drop to belwo zero temperatures, if it is a short coated dog. The possible presence of lighting, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods and other natural phenomena might further reduce his running distance. Finally, the absence or presence of predators which might capture and eat said dog will also affect how far he runs. All these, and possibly others, will have to be put into the proper differential equation, once the constants have been determined, before we can answer this question in a definitive manner.

Only to the center, after which he is running out. He could of course choose a path infinitely short of tangent to the forests circumference, making his journey to the center of the forest an infinite inwardly spiralling trek.

until he is in the forest then he is in the forest just as you can play a game and run into a circle one you're in you're in.
so to run into is just to enter now thye can go fro miles and miles in the forest depending on how big the forest is. Like this kind of trick question.
