I disagree that religion has made man ignorant. Whether or not God exists his presence in man's mind is a good thing. If everyone in the world believed that God existed and practiced religion then the world may become a little bit more peaceful place. I for one believe that there is a God and that he did create man in his image. Things like Earth is the only inhabitable planet in our solar system amaze me. Why is that? What would make this planet so special that it would have everything needed to sustain life. It's hard to believe that by accident the 3rd planet from the sun is the only one that provides all that is needed. For those of you who believe in the evolutionary theory I don't disagree with you either, but how can you say that wasn't all a plan either. You post this question, but will never get an answer for no one knows until the end and they are not talking. All I know is that if you believe in God and accept that, in the end if God exists then you have gained everything. But if you choose to not believe then in the end you have lost everything. Certainly better than a bet in Vegas. I hope you all think about that. I choose to believe and have faith. If I am wrong then what have I really lost.

God has created, is running, and will destroy the Universe. God is the Origin and Destination of the Universe. God was, is, will be everywhere, God was never Created and will never die / be destroyed. God is beyond Life and Death. All religions of world teach human way to get close to God. You give your Best, God will give thy Best. Ask God for help and forgive, God will help and forgive you. Pray; Worship and Thank God for everything. Remember wherever there is Happiness in Life, there will be Sorrow. To get Happiness, you must master Sorrow. For Success in Life; Believe in Self and God, Learn from Past, Concentrate in Present, Plan for Future. Have control on, be the master of, not the slave of your body, senses, and mind. Purpose of this Life is to Gain and Share utmost Knowledge and Experience to differentiate and choose Right, Good, God against Wrong, Bad, Devil. Set your Desire level perfect or OK to be brave, no low to be coward, no high to be cruel. You have rights of Survival, Self Defence, and Freedom.

God created man. It is possible to live without believing God, but I can't just imagine of people living without God. The disasters of this world are signs that Jesus is coming! Did you ask yourself why these things happen, well your answer is God! He does this and is telling us Jesus is coming closer! Just pray to God and tell him how you feel. He will listen. I'll pray for you too.

Man created God. However it's hard for man to live without God. We are powerless against disaster but we create god to help us through. Most of us will think that God is just testing us and it'll be over soon. I think God is just another name of hope.

Hi, innocent!
Yes, it is very possible for man to live without belief in God. :) I'm living proof of that. In fact, recent statistics would seem to suggest that man lives *better* without belief in God. You see, some countries in the world actually have a population that is atheist by majority; religious folks are relatively few in these countries. Canada, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland are a few of these atheist-majority contries. In them, the citizens have enjoyed lower violent crime rates, lower occurrence of drug addiction, lower abortion and teen pregnancy, lower infant mortality, and these countries also have more accessible health care systems provided at lower cost to their citizens - in most cases, to ALL their citizens. Pay rates are higher, education is better and more widespread, and people live longer lives in these countries than they do in religious-majority contries such as the U.S.A. So you see, it's quite possible for man to live and live *well* without God.
I understand your feelings completely. I'm an atheist (meaning, of course, that I don't believe in ANY gods, including the God of the Bible/Koran). I also feel a lot of anxiety in some situations - especially flying, I hate it! - and back when I was religious the idea of heaven and God certainly provided me with some comfort at those times. However, I have found other methods of comforting myself, and other motivations to be a good person.
And I also share your experience of doubting God's existence in the face of disasters, murders, childhood illness, etc. It really IS difficult for a thinking person to believe that God exists - especially the "loving God" that the modern Judeo-Christian religions would have us believe in.
It's okay to not believe in God. Nothing bad will happen to you. In fact, like me, you might find that your mind becomes freer. You might become a more happy, focused, contended person. You might be free from anxiety and worry - two problems that really plagued me a lot when I was religious.
I think you might enjoy the forums at http://richarddawkins.net. There are lots of good atheists there who you can discuss these issues with in greater depth. Or you're welcome to email me any time, through my profile here on YA.
Keep thinking for yourself. Don't let fear corner you into a belief you don't truly feel in your heart. it's okay to be an atheist, and you can live a wonderful, fullfilling life without God. :)
Some other resources that might help you understand the feelings you're experiencing right now:
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (book - it's also available on audio book)
The End of Faith by Sam Harris (book)

Long term it is impossible for man to live without being sustained by our creator, The one who gives us life.
It is the reason that all men sin and all men die and the reason God provided the atonement.

Read the other gospels of the bible (the ones that were left out) or the Nag Hammadi Library.
god created man and then man created God.
Don't worry. god is real. You just need to open your eyes.

Man creates their own gods "idols" and worship. But there is only one GOD who created us all. God Bless.

Man created god. Humans seem to have a need for this, for two reasons: to explain things they don't understand, and to overcome their fear of death. Of course you can live without that belief--many of us do, every day.
