I know Navy Nukes are mainly assigned sea duty, but when they are on shore duty, what are they doing?

Also, how long is shore duty for a Nuke Sailor?

When my wife was a Navy Nuke, she said that the sea/shore rotation was 5 years/2 years for enlisted nukes. I imagine that nukes on shore rotation could be assigned to the power school to aid in educating incoming nukes or continued training for themselves. I doubt many of them make it to the shore rotation before they separate from the Navy. Nukes have a six year commitment. They spend roughly two years training before they make it to their ship. Four years later, they have completed their active duty obligation. Last I heard, the Navy offers a $65,000 re-enlistment bonus for nukes, but it isn't enough for most enlisted nukes. Nukes are highly sought after by the nuclear power industry and can leave the Navy and start making close to six figures without a college degree. Therefore, a lot of nukes don't stay in the Navy long enough to get back to that shore rotation.

Here's the deal. IF You are asking about yourself and based on your picture you are female you will go all the way throught your Nuke training pipeline which is about 2 years long. That is all shore duty. Then you will spend the next 4 years of your remaining contract on a Navy Aircraft carrier since you cannot serve aboard a nuclear submarine. If you reenlist your shore duty following your time on the carrier will be spent as an instructor at one of the nuke school locations. After your 3 years doing that you will be back on another nuclear aircraft carrier. Don't forget when you are eligible to reenlist after just two years of active duty you will be given a reenlistment bonus which is $30K minimum. Your life is not bad and you are trained to be the best nukes in the entire world. IF you stay in about 8 years or so you will be able to choose recruiting duty as your shore duty where you will act as the nuke recruiter in a recruiting district. Hope this helps and sorry your shore duty isn't much more exciting, but the Navy spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to train you in your field and they use that education in the best way possible and that is to make more baby nukes.

properly you ignored a pair: l. a. Madelana (sp?), Italy Guam King's Bay, GA Groton, CT Bremerton, WA San Diego, CA Everett, WA Pearl Harbor, hi Charleston, SC (that's the place A, capability, and Prototype colleges are). There additionally are particularly some billets in different places yet they are few and plenty between. actuality is, if somebody is telling you which you will opt for shore accountability once you're in a college they do no longer look to be being honest. The nuclear pipeline is in basic terms some 2 year application that practically provides an buddies degree. you will bypass to a college, then capability college and then Prototype. After that, you're maximum in all probability to be assigned to a nuclear deliver or sub (deliver given which you're a female). a typical term nuke on shore accountability is notably plenty ineffective. they do no longer look to be going to place each and every of the time and money training you so which you would be able to take a seat on shore accountability and not use it.
