Better? From a video and audio perspective there is no significant difference! Extra space is irrelevent since movies fit both formats.

From a extra features perspective (important to many people) and hardware maturity perspective HD DVD wins hands down (See link) largely because unlike Blu-Ray -- where NO CURRENT players meet the current interim version of the Blu-Ray spec -- all HD DVD players have full features (e.g. Pin P, on board memory, LAN connectivity). There is already talk about law suits when consumers find out they have been had.

Blu-Ray talks a good show, but behind the scenes it's bailing wire and duct tape.

About Blockbuster:

70 copies of "Spiderman 3" on standard DVD.
1 copy in BluRay.

Note: My 2 BB near my home in LA may be different than yours. Other stores may do a better job with BluRay. Check for yourself.

EXTRA SPACE:

Hollywood is cheap. They dont want to spend extra production studio time creating extra content for that space on a BluRay disk. They want to create 1 master and use it for VHS, DVD, HD-DVD and BluRay.

They MIGHT create a few 'show off' titles with extra stuff for BluRay or HD-DVD, but the bulk of the movies will have the exact same content no matter what type of disk is used.

NOTE:

I have both a BluRay and HD-DVD player. They are both last years models so they are a bit slow to start up, but both produce fantastic video. Neither format stands out as clearly superior.

I suspect the war is going to be won based on 2 things:

- Getting inexpensive players into consumers hands
- Titles, Titles, Titles.

I've heard that you can play any type of DVD (blue ray, hd and regular DVDs) on a blue ray player. If this is true I would have to say blue ray is better.

For you the answer is Blu-Ray.
Cause You Bought One!!!

And I'm sure you've already done all the research prior to buying one.

But Now it seems you're looking for reassurance that the decision you made is correct. Honestly it doesn't matter what is better, they're both equally good.

And regardless of which format wins or loses. You've enjoyed Hi-Def Video and will continue to do so... while the rest of us Wonders what could be.

I'd say blu-ray because blockbuster has stopped selling HD-DVD's.
