about God?
Have you ever sat and thought about what if the "Believers" are right? That when you die this "perception" of hell might be real because "you" didn't believe or open your mind enough to listen?
Me: I KNOW what I believe and if I was ever proven wrong, what have I lost...my life is wonderful and blessed because I have Jesus. If some think it's all in my head, so be it. I was just wondering if "you" have ever thought about..."what if you are wrong"?

let's all play nice, no bashing just opinions please

"garvy" & "Bush blows"
please read ALL of what I wrote, I spent most of my 42 years of my life doing everything I could to be away from "God", but He waited for me.
If I'm wrong, what have I lost? Worshiping Him in THIS life is far better then worshiping the world. I feel better and is happier, so what have I lost?

so many answers are implying that God is: unfair, judgemental, pety and so on, but isn't that what you're doing by making those comments?

"Oovey"
sorry you took such offence to my question, thinking I was trying to "force" my beliefs down some one's thoat. I was wondering because I had wondered it myself when I first got saved. This by no means was to insult anyone. sorry you felt that

"Joan"
that was the best example of what I've been trying to ask :-)
thanks

People who talk about the "cruelty " of God simply don't have a clue as to what they're talking about. They just don't get it and never will because they allow full reign of their ignorance on Scriptural matters to control their pathetic secular worshiping life. They can't understand that God gave Satan power of the earth and the air around it - until that day when He takes it back and banishes those who do not believe. Then, they will understand and believe, but it will be too late for them.

You know -- I think everyone is to some extent wrong?
I do think -- just like everyone else -- that I have the inside track and that I have found the road less travelled??
But I don't think that I have it 100% right.

I feel like, those of us that are giving our all trying to be in right-standing with Yahweh at the end of all things will be told "Well done my good & faithful servant -- but, you were REALLY wrong in your understandings about this/that/the other". I think that, at that point, we will have class and we will all study and read the word and Yahshua (Messiah) will explain this all to us... and it will be so clear!

At that point -- at the end of class -- we'll be asked "Now that the truth is as clear as clean water, do you choose Yahweh to be your Elohim from this day forward?"
And, even then, we can say yes...
or, we can say "...no..." because of being LIKE Satan (because who was around Lucifer to convince him to rebel?? No one, he did it himself)

And we can truly make an educated decision on the matter.

Until that time as such that we know all things and we understand all things, I feel that we should TRY our best to know and understand YHWH and His Word. I feel that we should keep an open mind for when someone comes and can, WITH scripture, shoot down what we thought was true. We may need to change it accordingly.

For once you know THE truth on a matter, you should do nothing less than that. (That goes for keeping the Sabbath, eating pork, celebrating Christmas, etc)

That's called Pascal's wager and has been thoroughly discussed on every religious cult forum on the internet. Why don't you look it up, instead of asking this rhetorical question. You don't 'know' anything, you have faith in whatever cult you were indoctrinated into. Knowledge does not come from belief. What if you're wrong about which 'god' you are bowing down to? What if you're supposed to be worshipping Odin, Ra, or Apollo all this time, and when you die they are going to subject you to eternal torture because you didn't believe in one of them. It's not a 50/50 chance that you are right and atheists are wrong. You have a 1 in 1000+ chance of being right about your particular imaginary deity, solely based on probability not on any knowledge. Nice try though.

If I'm wrong and there really is a Christian God who would send me to Hell for not believing in him (in spite of the fact that I tried to be a good person all my life and help others), then He is a petty God who isn't worthy of my respect or worship in the first place.

I'd rather spend an eternity in Hell than worship a being that would create such a place.

i find it hard to really have any solid beliefs because all my life i have had my parents force their own religion on me and everyone is always hypocritical. there are so many beliefs, faiths, "truths" and "lies" out there.

so my "belief" is that if you try to live a good life then if there is an "afterlife" you'll be rewarded, if not then i guess you'll get the bad end of the bargain...
I guess we won't know until it happens....
And what if I'm wrong?... then i guess i'll find that out too....

Nope. I live my life for me. I do what I feel is right and benefits myself. How could that be a sin? I don't find sitting half asleep on a church pew once a week is going to 'save me'. If there is a God, do you think he would find it so wrong that people question his existance and look for many variables and answers? That we think for ourselves? Do you think he would shun someone who led a good wholesome life, but did not go to church or worship?

I would imagine he would be less forgiving to the pushy, judgemental bible humping know-it-alls.

Yes. Currently I am going through quite an overhaul in my belief system and have wondered what if I'm wrong more than once.

Ditto any above answers re Pascals wager.

I'm sure any true God will welcome in anyone who has lived a good life, not just those that kissed his a*se every Sunday.

And I appreciate that this may be wasted on you, but you are advocating a philosophy of 'hedging your bets' .... ie, I'll believe just in case, is not belief at all!

My atheist uncle use to say "Christians have everything to gain and nothing to lose." I think he was right and I defended his right to say it to others. If I am wrong I simply don't have as much to gain as I thought I did. But religion, any religion will teach faith and morals if it is a good religion. I always have that to fall back on. God knows we need faith and morals in the world today.
