Let's look at this in a neighborly perspective, and in a neighbors analogy. Meaning my neighbors and myself around each other.

I have a fence that blocks off the neighbors to the east, north, and west of me. The south is also blocked, but takes care of my yard, and my interests. These neighbors and myself all have animals. The neighbors to the east has a couple of dogs, and kids who trash everything, and use their backyard as the trash can. The mom and dad are avid pack rats and collect every little thing they might use some day, but in actuality never do and never will. The neighbors to the north is a state registered house, has a dog, and house full of adults that care for patients who have disabilities caused by head injuries. The neighbors to the west are a single couple who have two cats, and two dogs. Where as myself has 3 cats and a dog.

Now since the neighbors to the east collect junk, the kids use the yard as the trash can, and the dogs try to break through the fence to get at my animals or the kids playing in my yard. With that side of the fence there, I don't have to look at the junk piles, pick up the garbage after those kids, and I don't clean up after their dogs. With the fence on the north, it keeps those with the disabilities corralled so that their care givers keep better track of them, they keep their yard cleaned up, and I don't have to clean up after their dog. With the fence on the west, that couple also keeps their yard cleaned up, and I don't have to clean up after their cats or their dogs. I keep my yard cleaned up, and everything has it's place when put away. I have trained my cats to stay in the yard, and the neighbors cats do not bother to come over the fence because of my dog. Even though the dog is an animal lover, and wants to make friends with all the animals in the neighborhood. (Yes I have a strange dog in that fashion) But no one climbs over the fence and invites themselves to where they are not wanted, nor belong either. Because then they do and will have a problem with my dog. And since I am the only one that knows how to control the dog, and have the dog behave, they are really in a deep fix if I am not there to rescue them.

See I have to have two licenses for this dog. A regular city license, and a guard dog license to protect myself from lawsuits should someone enter my property and the dog goes after them. And yes there are signs posted to beware of the dog, as well as keep out, no trespassing signs, and security cameras.

So to answer your question now... Yes, fences work, and really do make for good neighbors. For everyone all around in the long run, and for everyone's best interest. The cameras allow me to know how the univited got themselves in a predictiment they knew they should have expected for coming over the fence. And the tape recordings, evidence for the DA and the police.

Well, it should cut down on the wear and tear illegal immigration causes our fragile desert environment. Less litter scattered about. and the animals might get a bit more rest as the article points out, at least until the tunnels can be completed. On the other hand, if everyone now has to fly over the wall, the extra fuel consumption will likely have its own negative impact.

NO
a fence across a rural area will not prevent any human from crossing it will prevent game from moving freely. there will be just as much trash as there is now. the only way to protect our border and prevent illegal crossings is to put live bodies on it, ICE, border patrol, military the fence is nothing but a waste of money to present a symbol to the public that the government is doing something about illegals. a fence in a metro area is effective because by slowing down the crossing process the illegals are likely to be caught since there are so many eyes watching for them.

I've seen so many sites that show pictures of the trash and devastation these illegals are leaving in our desert and I find it particularily disgusting. They've created a huge cesspool there and I'm sure the parks and tribal councils are sick of all of it, not to mention the private owners. The fence could help a lot in controlling the trash and such and I feel it would be a impediment to the illegals. Our ecology is just as important as Mexico's if not more so, as we actually do try to keep things ecologicaly friendly.Perhaps those illegals that are in our prisons could be made to help clean this up as part of their punishment, I wholly believe in chain gang labor. But should this not have been our first warning about how much they care about our nation? I can't imagine the dollar amount of trying to keep this clean?!

On our combined ranches in my area we haul about a ton of trash per month out of the areas where the illegals cross. Mainly water bottles, plastic bags, and a variety of clothing, shoes, and every now and then a dead body.
Other than the bodies, none of the trash will biodegrade, so anything that helps block illegals will definitely help the environment. It's just another of the many "benefits" that illegal aliens bring with them to this Country.

The Sierra Club is dealing with the illegal immigration problem as well. There are those that want a stop because of the harm the left behind trash creates, and then they have those that want open borders to insure the wildlife and vegetation is free to seek it's natural course. I go with those that want to stop illegal immigration using a fence, employment verification, or what ever we need to do to stop not only the raping of our border, but the cost both to our bottom line, and our way of life.

No because with all the people flying over it on little home-made airplanes it's going to make it even worse. I know illegal immigration is a big problem, but we've gotta be realisitic here. A wall is not going to stop them. Desperate Mexicans will improvise and figure out a way to get over it. Even if it means using some kind of home made flying machine LOL.

No. But in fairness, "Help" isn't really the goal of that fence. It's funny- the greatest acheivement of our last Republican President was to tear down a wall between two countries.
