They did not used to even operate for this. But with a Pancreaticoduodenectomy or Whipple procedure, which involves removal of the gall bladder, bile duct, part of the duodenum annd the head of the pancreas, people are living longer. If the patient lives 5 years, after the surgery, 25 % percent live another five years.
Now to a young person, this may not seem like a long time.
But think what can happen in ten years. Children can Marry, have Grandchildren, you may see wonders in ten years.
It depends on the quality of life of the patient. And overall health of the patient.

Hope, if you really need an answer then you need to give us more details about your situation. When were you (or your acquaintance) diagnosed with pancreatic cancer ? Was the cancer biopsied or staged? Is the person currently having symptoms? Was surgery suggested and if so what surgery?

All these things make a difference in the answer. Generally speaking pancreatic cancer does not have a good statistical prognosis. Then again, when dealing with cancer, statistics are irrelevant if you turn out to be the percentile that does well. Make sure the person with the pancreatic cancer goes to a comprehensive cancer center for evaluation and treatment by Drs who treat pancreatic cancer every day. This is especially important in choosing a surgeon if surgery has been suggested. Let us know the details and we can give you a better answer. good luck

Stay away from anyone who suggests treating serious diseases with things like coffee enemas. You don't want to waste your precious time looking for magic bullets when you might have been healed had you seen a medical professional rather than a quack.

Actor Steve McQueen tried the coffee enema cure.

My wife's grandmother had it and was given a cat scan and told she had 3 months to live. She didn't follow the medical profession's advice and went essentially with the http://www.hacres.com diet, high quality Standard Process supplements (cancer is mostly a disease of malnutrition), and frequent organic coffee enemas. She's alive and thriving at 90 years old and 3 or 4 years later. Note that organic coffee enemas are caffeinated, free trade coffee and are just ONE part of the natural treatment. Be wary of anyone who tells you they are not effective. If you have problems with caffeine, you need to speak to someone better qualified than myself about how it can be administered. My understanding is that caffeinated coffee causes the liver to release a lot of antioxidants.

If you Google "steve mcqueen cancer coffee enema" the first site returned is http://www.coffee-enema.ca/cancers_enema_no_1_make_that_2.htm . You can also read that his cancer was so bad it was not reversible under any plan. Go to that site and you'll see an MD from Canada that has had good results from it and recommends it, along with a "strict and organic vegetarian diet." He also gets criticized for his research, as you'd expect. He says organic coffee enemas are particularly effective for pancreatic cancer - that may help you. Dr. Gonzales also uses hand-made supplements, my suggestion is Standard Process because you can actually get them. I believe the http://www.hacres.com site recommends organic coffee enemas as well.

BE WARY of anyone that tells you organic coffee enemas are not one element of an effective treatment. They clearly do not know what they are talking about. PLEASE educate yourself in the natural field. One book my wife, an ND, recommends is "A Cancer Battle Plan."

Be wary of those that tell you it can't be prevented and reversed with diet. You just have to do it right, cancer is complex, so I'd recommend a COMPETENT ND. Feel free to email me by clicking my avatar if you want additional information.

Also, the dear heart Panda states here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AitRYbIFPVyT16K3NsplF7bty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071108152643AAqB9UU&show=7#profile-info-2cf022b7d8b3c4d51c492857f2ee13e5aa that you shouldn't eat raw fruits, vegetables or honey WHEN you are doing chemo. I'd never heard that. But it should tell you there are two polar positions on cancer treatment. One that actively promotes natural raw fruits and vegetables that are alive, healing and boost the immune system. The other relies wholly on drugs and a diet composed of dead nutrition and kills your immune system. You decide! What makes the most sense to you? When you read here http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/conten... that the American Cancer Society states half of men and a third of the women in the US are diagnosed with cancer, then compare that with the dramatically reduced numbers in rural China (reference http://www.thechinastudy.com), you have to ask whether the US medical profession is doing much about cancer.

Also, be wary of quackwatch articles, as the guy that runs the site is a known fraud. See http://www.canlyme.com/quackwatch.html and http://www.raysahelian.com/quackwatch.ht... I've checked his site and it contains rampant errors. You can't trust anything he says.

PLEASE BE WARY of anyone trying to discredit the truth about natural methods that DO WORK. Check it out for yourself and you'll see that (hopefully!) everything I'm telling you is the truth. If it's not the truth, hopefully I will learn and make corrections in the future. Cancer is a complicated matter, and there's lots of conflicting information out there. You need to see a qualified and competent ND that utilizes the natural approach to healing. Some ND's promote drugs - be wary of that.

I think I'm at an all time high. 6 thumbs down. Excellent. That must mean the traditional medical proponents don't like what I'm saying. You WILL get resistance from them. If you go natural, you need to stay positive. Stay away from people that criticize you for choosing to do what you feel is best for you. It will not help your healing. Choose your plan of attack and then stop researching. Focus on healing not more negative, stressful, confusing research. Even better, forget that you even have cancer, it will be better for your healing. It is not easy to find the truth. Good luck to you.
