Me and a guy got pretty close pretty fast. Then suddenly out of the blue he says he thought he was ready for a relationship/commitment but he now doesn't think he is. He says he does like me but wants to be friends now and get to know each other more as friends. Which is fine. But I'm just wondering if this is something guys really do when they really like someone and just don't want a commitment at the moment? I just don't want to get my hopes up that something might happen in the future if we slow things down and be friends and all along he was just trying to take the easy way out. I really like this guy.

sounds like he doesn't know what he wants. most young guys don't & they jump from one girl to the next.

This is consistent with being open to the idea of a relationship, but having a red flag thrown suddenly in one's path that decisively changes everything. That's a no-fault situation you can't really plan for.

Sounds to me like he's trying to take the easy way out. That's
the thing about movin too fast, doesn't give us guys anything to look forward too. Its more like sayin NEXT!!!! I hope that's not case but its more likely then not.
