Snake represent lies, deceit, and deception. To be in a bag represents issues collected by a person in their life. I don't know if the bag belonged to you. By the snake being dead, it represents there is a deceptive issue you are facing which is losing it power, but is still effective. By hitting the snake with the shovel it means to finally put the issue to death.

small snake with other stuff in a bag= fear, hidden fear
1/2 dead = confusion, disappointment
asking if it was poisonous = seeking agreement
The action you are in the dream is basically trying to face your fear. That in projection can mean you want to fight your fear directly. In reality this fear could be anything and you may be in lack of support. Notice that in the dream, you were facing the snakes yourself. Asking to confirm if it was posionous. Basically, you want to face the problems or bad situation alone. However, you are still seeking for support, but not directly.
That in the dream reflects your personalities. In other words, you may be able to face lots of difficulties and however, you dare not to do it all by yourself.
Subconsciously you are seeking for some support. It does not matter whether they help you directly. All you need is some listeners or someone who can give you pointer or agree with you. You probably want to do things you own with little help then asking people because deep down you feel like help is hard to come by. And you vent this all in dream

This dream is interesting! It's possible that you have some issues in your life that seem small but if undealt with they will grow and grow until it overcomes you. Are you a Christian? God may be trying to get your attention. The snake represents sin, and it being black could represent the issue.

killing an animal in a dream may destroy teh energy derived from the instincts.
snakes in dreams are often compared to serpents which meanwhen the dreamer is attempting to come to terms with his/her more instinctive self.
this has to do with the recognition and harnessing of energies which have been suppressed and thwarted. since the most primeval urge is sexuality, the image of the snake is the most primitive one available.

I think that it means you are having some small problems in your life. Since you killed the snake you are going to overcome your problems.
