The Greek word for book is "βιβλιος" (biblios). Hence, the Bible is literally "the Book".

the Bible is a cognate from the Greek nominative plural βιβλια which literally means "books". So the Bible is a collection of books, 39 OT and 27 NT for 66 total (at least in the Protestant view). The term holy was added because the Bible was viewed to be inspired by God Himself as His direct revelation to man.

At the Third Concil of Carthage in 397 a.d the final "word" was given as to what was to be included or excluded form our modern day 'bibles'.

John Wycliff was one of the first to translate the Bible into English which he actullay got from Latin translations of the Scriptures around 1340

King James of England came along and actually made a version ( of where we get today's name, of course) in the early 1600's.

To make a long story short-

Latin-biblios-collection
sanctos-sanctified or holy

Most of todays are from the Latin Vulgates so there you have "sanctified collections" or Holy Bible.
Hope that helps. God Bless!

I don't know, but I heard that the person who wrote it said that he had a connection with God and he told him what to write. Either that or he was on crack.
