you can get out up to six months early for education.. you must have already been accepted to a college before you can request early release. However, if you are currently deployed, it won't happen.

there are Hardship discharges, (Link 1) Disability discharges (Link 2) Unsuitability discharges, generally given for psychiatric deviancies (This may or may not include being a confessed active lesbian) and a range of other administrative discharges for less-than-honorable service. I would think twice before going the administrative/punative discharge route.

The better question here is, why would someone want to ponder this question. The military has a saying "the quickest way out is to finish your contract" because anything else takes time (medical interviews, military confinement, psychological interviews, etc.) Not to mention by selecting an other than honorable way out, you are putting a stigma of disgrace on your name and your family will have to live with that for a long time.

It depends on why they want to get out.....In the Air Force we have a program called palace chase, where you get out and go in to the Reserves or Guard (can't remember which) and you serve the reminder of your enlistment with them but there are catches to that...its not for everybody...there's hardship discharges and a couple of others that are still considered honorable....can you provide some more info, mainly your branch of service and why you want to get out?

Do like John Kerry. Tell them you want out so you can run for political office. Then go dice your fellow vets in front of the US SENATE>

No family care plan. Or a medical reason. Unless you want to be haunted by your DD214 for doing something stupid to get out.

Someone sucks it up and does their duty. Someone swore an oath and I expect that someone to keep that oath. If I can manage to honor the oath I swore 18 years ago, some can manage to keep their oath until their enlistment is up.

Take a hit of cocaine right in front of your commander and first shirt. Then again, you'll get dishonorably discharged and probably thrown in confinement. What would be so hard about actually finishing out your contract?

Reenlist.
Your 'discharged' then reenlisted. So fastest way is to 'reenlist'.
Hope that helps.
