Actually, we don't even know if Jesus said ANYthing that's in the bible, much less whether it's true -- we have NO firsthand accounts of Jesus' life. The earliest copies of the books of the New Testament weren't written until some 30 years after his supposed death.

I have to agree with Reverend Soleil`s answer, but I`d go further and say the bible was put together by mire men and the Catholic Bible is different than the everyday bible and it was mere men that decided what to put in the Bible and what to leave out. The Dead Sea scroll pieces that have been found are in line with the old testament, but all the pieces have not been found yet. There are a lot of missing pieces in Genesis which lead me to start studying Ancient Sumerian history, because the Bible does say to test the spirits and in doing so the Bible started to make sense and it helps to read the bible as a history book rather than a book of religion. If you start learning about ancient Sumerian history and follow where it leads you for further knowledge, the chains of man made religions fall off and then you can truly grow spiritually.
Below are links that may interest you.

Heres something to think about: It`s all these man made religions and opinions of what the truth is that is the cause of most of the wars and bloodshed on this planet.

Here we go with the "antiquity" of manuscripts again.

The Bible as we have it today was compiled of manuscrpits that have been declared some of the most reliably accurate documents of all the antiquated writings that we have. It is more accurate and reliable than even that of The Illiad and the writings of Aristotle. Since the records of the gospels were written only 20 to 30 years after Jesus' death and the way that they were written along with the context and checks and balances of the time, there is no room for legend or myths to creep in and "muddle" the stories. Evidences from archeology and other historical documents are continually showing that The Bible has been and remians to be one of the most reliable books of and on history of that era and time. So reliable that even other reference type books and encyclopidias take faith in its writing and content to use IT for a reference.

So my money is on The Bible, as a whole, and even more so on The New Testament because of these facts. Also because of The Holy Spirit's guidance when I read and study It.

God Bless!

The same way we know 2+2=4 is truth. If Jesus said 2+2=5 than we'd have to believe Jesus was not speaking the truth, but that was not the case. He is never contradictory.

These Bible-quoting answers are soooo funny. That is the whole point of the question. You are using the Bible as a self-proving document. The New Testament was written the first time after all of the witnesses were dead. It was re-written many times, added to and subtracted from, mis-copied and mis-interpreted to the point that who knows what the original version contained. I have yet to hear of any non-secular texts from the time that corroborate anything that the New Testament states. As far as they go is to say that Jesus existed, and he was put to death for inciting a political revolution, not a religious one.

Just because someone's outlook on life has changed due to belief in a deity does not give evidence of the existence of that deity, or to the possibility of what he is purported to have said to be true. That is nothing more than an emotional response.

Do you REALLY want to know? Will you actually ACT on the Truth?

If you're just asking a skeptic's question, stop reading now, because "knowledge = responsibility".

But if you really want to know, then keep reading.

The most important evidence is what Jesus, Himself, said. He said that if you really want to know if my teachings came from God, then OBEY THESE COMMANDS, and you shall know. (Refer to the sermon on the mount).

Besides that, the proof, as they say, is in the pudding.

When you look at the millions of people whose lives have been transformed for the better because of their belief and trust in God and the Bible, bad ones made right, wrong ones made bad, drug addicts and alcoholics, murderers, thieves, child abusers and sex addicts, et cetera, then you can no longer deny the authenticity of the Scriptures of the Bible.

We are discussing religious BELIEFS. Try to grasp the concept. There is no proof; there is no way to know for sure. If there was it would not require faith now would it?

To Christians, Jesus was the messiah; that is their belief. To the Jews, Jesus was not the messiah and they still are waiting for the messiah; that is their belief.

Atheists say that there is no God at all; that is their belief. There is no proof either way.

BTW-that is why Atheism is actually a secular religion. Just like other religions, it is not based on fact but belief. I know this annoys my Atheist readers but facts is facts.

because He did the what His Father's will was. Jesus also said that we must have childlike faith. Jesus chose to be our sacrifice of sin to the Holy God that we could come to God. John 14 (key verse is 6) says: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

How do you know that He what He said was not the truth? You have to have the FAITH that what the Bible says is the truth... if you don't then you will question everything

The same way that someone can know that Jesus was born of a virgin and that 4-legged insects exist. As the song goes, "For the Bible tells me so."

Good question. I will attempt to answer it for you. There are books in the Bible meant for believers and some for un-believers. Some for both. I believe the Prophetic books were more for un-believers, the book of Daniel and Revelation.
Although these books were written thousands of years ago, the prophetic predictions contained in them have come to pass exactly as foretold. There have been countless numbers of people and organizations who have studied these texts with the intent on proving them false. To this day the texts still stand as reliable, accurate and without blemish. Could you look thousands of years into the future and predict with 100% accuracy all of the events that will take place? Of course not, no one but God Himself can do that. Jesus told the people of His day: If you don't believe me, believe my miracles. I think the same goes for the prophetic scriptures, they are a miracle and we can believe in them to prove Jesus was who He claimed to be. God Bless You...Peace.
