They no longer have that as part of the wedding. It was done away with years ago.

We had those words taken out of our vows at my first wedding (in 1980). There were a few family members who didn't care too much for my husband to be, so I was afraid they would object LOL. Maybe I should have heeded their warning! We ended up getting a divorce years later. For my second marriage, I pulled together the vows from various links on the web, so it was exactly the way I wanted. I didn't pull in that part either, even though nobody would have objected to this wedding.
Years ago they did ask that at weddings (I'm pretty old). I have seen people give others a glance when that question was asked, but nobody actually objected. I don't think they ask anymore, which is best because nobody has a right to object to your wedding during the ceremony!

I've performed over 2,000 weddings and it has never happened. Of course, I don't ask if anyone objects. I figure if anyone objects, they should have done so already. If anyone ever does interrupt a wedding ceremony with an objection, I will nicely ask them to sit down and shut up. If they don't, I will have them bounced.

Never heard of someone doing this at a wedding but I've been to a wedding where the groom didn't show up.. Poor girl didn't hear from him until almost 6 months after the wedding date. He decided he didn't want to get married after going to his bachelor party..

It is still part of the service but I have never (and I have been to a few weddings as I sing in my local church choir) seen anyone object.
The banns are the time someone should let the vicar/celebrant know.
I think that you can be arrested and charged if you object without legal reason.

I did go to a wedding where the drunk mother in law stood up and said :dont marry that sl--!!! then she passed out and I felt so bad for this girl . They did not get married and she moved away from the city . I dont know what happened to her but I am assuming the embarassment was just too much for her . I know that my cousin is happier with the girl he is with now . good luck and god bless.

In the UK this is still part of the wedding ceremony, but I am happy to say I have never been to a wedding where that has happened, I doubt it happens very often

My sister got married last year and they still said "if anyone knows......."
Thank goodness no one stood up- it was nerve wracking though. I'm going to be a wreck on my wedding day, lol!
I have actually never heard of anyone objecting like that- i think people try to make their objections known before the actual wedding day.
The only time i have seen it happen is on Soap Operas! ;-)

It used to be used all the time in the Middle Ages. Now it is only said in the movies and on tv. Real weddings don't use it because of modern laws regarding marriage.

This question is asked here frequently.
From my experience, this is NEVER said at real weddings. It is only used in movies and TV.
I went to a wedding and was married this year. I did not hear that line at either wedding.
A co-worker was in FOUR weddings this year. I asked her to make note of whether that line was said. It wasn't said at any of the weddings she was in.
It may have been included long long ago before accurate record-keeping was possible.
But the only objection that one could reasonably make is that the bride and groom are blood related or that one or both of them are already married to someone else.
