I (*think I*) believe in re-incarnation... but someone asked me why and what the purpose of the resurrection at judgement would be if reincarnation was true... help! Thanks!

If you don't believe in re-incarnation or are not open to its possibilities, don't bother answering my question without facts or scripture to back up your opinions. Don't just tell me I'm wrong and burning in hell... tell me WHY I'll burn in hell... lol.

Your body dies, your spirit lives forever. At the resurrection, your body will be reunited with your spirit, no matter where it is (either heaven or hell).

We wouldn't, which is one of the reasons that the Bible doesn't preach reincarnation, and uses the Savior, Jesus Christ, to solve the problem of human falliability.

And, just to poke a few holes in the reincarnation theory before you get way far down the wrong track.

So, if you are exploring your spiritual side, you must believe in God, right?

If you look around, you will see an incredible variety of plants and animals. You have met individual people, and no two of them have ever been alike. We have even discovered, that things that look alike, like blades of grass, or snowflakes, are really quite different - in fact no two of them are alike. So why would God stop exercising His incredible creativity at souls?

Also, there are more people here on earth now than ever before - by billions. Where are the new souls coming from?

Sorry, but for me, reincarnation doesn't even make mathematical sense, let alone logic.

And while we're on the subject, how come nobody who 'knows' they had a past life was ever a nobody? How many times can Cleopatra be reincarnated, anyway?

Why do you believe in reincarnation? Just curious since it doesn't make sense to me. If there are a certain number of souls available to go around, then how is the population explosion possible (there are more people on earth right now than in the the last several thouand years combined). What is the point of coming back if you have NO recollection of your previous lives? How can you right a wrong that you don't even know you committed? If we all come back better than we were before, then why aren't things constantly moving toward the better instead of toward the worse? It just doesn't seem to make sense on any level, but those are just my thoughts.

You wouldn't.

Additionally, reincarnation teaches that humans die over and over. The Bible teaches that humans will only have to die once. Hebrews 9:27 But if they are found unpardonable and unwilling to change, they die an eternal second death with no resurrection. Revelation 20:13, 14, Rev. 21:8.

Those who are dead are not alive or thinking either, just waiting to be called back to life. Psalms 146:3, 4, 1 Timothy 6:16

Resurrection is in fact a term misinterpreted by most religious people. At the time the Bible was written, people couldn't barely grasp the idea of reincarnation. The prophets and Jesus were dealing with ignorant people. They used the term Resurrection as being the spirit coming back in the same body, but we all know that would simply be impossible to happen. We really come back, but in another body. Jesus said "nobody goes to heaven if not coming from heaven". This is like a cycle, just like everything in Nature, if you stop and observe it. Life is a cycle. Water evaporates to air, becomes clouds, falls down as rain and evaporates again. The trees drop their leaves that cover the ground, give the earth nutrients that feed the trees, bringing new leaves in spring. Animals die and other animals eat them, so that they continue the cycle. The same with us, spirits, we come to this life, we die and we are prepared to come back, to conclude the cycle, until we reach such perfection that we don't have to be born again.

Which one of us is really ready to follow Jesus' example? No one of us. We certainly need several lives, otherwise we all would be screwed.

Thank God and His mercy, we have several chances to progress. He gives us several chances because He loves us just like a father loves his own children and a father gives his children several chances, right?

Peace!
Edit. I don't believe in judgement day, but I believe something is going to change in this world soon. I believe there is a big change, a step forward our spiritual progress, but don't think Jesus will come sitting in a throne and judge us with his judge hammer in his hand. Just a natural change to a better phase.

I personally don't believe in re-incarnation, so for me there's only resurrection. Resurrection (for me) means that you end up in 'heaven' . What is the point of re-incarnation? To keep coming back to this place and living with sadness and imperfectness? No thank you. I choose to believe that when the time comes I will end up in 'heaven' with my family and friends who believe in God the Father.

the purpose of resurrection and judgement was to satisfy the psychological needs of the people of the cult of osiris.

since christianity borrows heavily from the older faiths such as this one, the reason for the necessity for a biblical ressurection is to transition people of the old pagan faiths smoothly to the new christianity by presenting ideas which were already familiar such as the eucharist, resurrection, and, most cherished, tithing..

since you believe in both reincarnation and a final reconciliation with god, it sounds like you are a buddhist and not a christian.

buddhism will supply you with the answer to this question.

Why do you think you believe in reincarnation?
Is it easier to believe that you will come back as something else? Less scary?
If God made you in His own image and likeness, why would He even consider letting you come back as something else?
You only have one shot on this earth. Thats it.
You have an eternal spirit. Even when your body dies, your spirit lives on forever and ever.
This doesn`t mean you come back to earth as something else. It means your spirit will go directly to either heaven or hell when your earthly body dies. And there it will live for eternity. During the resurrection, your earthly body will be called up and made new. You will be perfect. At that judgement, you will either be eternal happy in heaven or eternally tormented in hell. And since your body is perfect, and your spirit never dies, if you are in hell, you will wish for death because of the torment it will feel

Let me see if I can explain this as I believe it. Sometimes I have trouble getting ideas to words...LOL

I am Catholic, but I believe in reincarnation. I believe that what others refer to as the ressurection at judgement will happen to me as I renew each life. I will not lay in eternity waiting to face the judgement. I face judgement in my everyday life (Karma). Whatever energy, bad or good, I send into the world through my thoughts and actions, comes back to me so that the punishment or reward matches the action.

I believe I will continue in this vein until I have learned all there is to learn for the total refinement of my soul.

The main thing is, don't let others make up your mind about your own beliefs. Use their questions/comments/criticisms as a method of questioning and strengthening your own beliefs. Continue to learn, read, ask, and form what you believe.

I hope this helps, best of all to you!

Resurrection and re-incarnation are two different things entirely. You can't believe in both. It's God's word or the devil's word . . . You choose . . .

but . . .

why would you want to be somebody else anyway?

you are who you are. is it so bad? we are each unique, like a spectrum of light in a rainbow. love who you are, not who you think you were or who you hope you might be. you are you. that's it. God is real.

peace

reincarnation is not true. Jesus' resurrection has a Biblical foundation, reincarnation does not. Jesus died and was resurrected so that we may have eternal life.... those who believe that He is the Son of God and our savior will go to heaven and have eternal life.
