They have the largest standing army in the world, not sure what the actual numbers are. But as far as their Navy and Air Force are concerned, they are no match for the US and a number of other countries.

I live and work in China as a teacher at a college, an ex pat from the USA.
China has a huge population that can be mobilized if needed. However, their standing army is only several million. Last year they reduced their military by 1 million.
Every able bodied student must go through training at the college during the first three weeks of their freshman year. It consists of classroom and drills out on the basketball court and the soccer field. The students consider it a waste of time and I'd have to agree to to a point. It's kind of like boy scout camp for college students.
There is no weapons training, just classroom, drills and marching. They are not even issued uniforms, but rather do all of that in issued athletic sweats and their own shoes.
As far as I can tell, that is what the compulsory military service is to most Chinese.
Peace
Jim

That is true, they have a very large army but not all have sophisticated weaponry. secondly, for some to think they are less advanced then other western countries remember where they were 20 years ago and think where they will be in 20 years. Soon there economy will dwarf Americas and the rest of the world. Then we will see if they will be better to this world then the Americans

I've never seen this figure anywhere, but given their population it's about right for the total of all people who could potentially serve in the military. Countries only field a small percentage of that potential because of the cost of equipping, training and supporting them. There also is a requirement to keep farms and factories running. Currently the Chinese army has 2,800,000 soldiers on active duty and over 3 million in reserve units. This is still the largest army in the world, about 10 times the size of the U.S. army. but only 2% of the figure you listed.

China has 342 million citizens available for duty in its population, and roughly 7 million serving in its armed forces.
China's military strength is simply manpower and buying power. The American Navy and Air Force vastly outclasses China's. Most of China's equipment are knock-offs or surplus of 15 year old Soviet Equipment. While China most definately have one of the top armies in the world, Russia's and the United States' is overall better.

According to the survey by most influential historians around the world about the most powerful superpowers, it is proved true that the chinese army is the largest and the strongest of all the
armies around the world ,also its air force and also its navy .Its because it has the largest population in the world nothing else.

China is the world's strongest and largest army.
With an estimated 2.5 militarily trained, million man army.
Not to mention the technology (sold to them by Clinton in the 90's). They are the superpower militarily now.
With the trillion dollars a day borrowed from them by the US, thus devaluing the US dollar, they can own America without firing a single shot. All they have to do, is cash in the receipts and demand payment and viola, the USA is bankrupt and China owns the US 100%!
This isn't black helicopter Alex Jones conspiracies.. this is a mathematical fact! This is all happening as the Rep and Dem's all want globalization, a one world government and the North American Union.
Say goodbye to the USA and all without a single shot fired, a draft of soldier defenders and to combat the knowledge of this... they bring you, Carbon footprint-Global warming, Brit. Spears, OJ and more mindless, BS, to numb you and throw you off...Consider yourself a Stepford Wife, because that is how they are numbing us!
