I hope you aren't planning to leave your dog outside year round. it can be very cold/hot and this could be hard on your pup. We built a fence, but still only let the dogs out while supervised, they then come in and sleep in their crate at night...this is the best way for them.
There are some great ways to train your pitty to be houebroken, again a crate will help in this process.
everytime you take your pit out (and go it ALOT at first so they aren;t even given much of an opportunity to go inside) continuously say "out, out, out" as you near the door. soon the dog will associated the word with the motion and will go "out" on your command. secondly, while the dog is weeing or pooing continue to say that word also while they are doing it (over and over while they wee say "wee, wee, wee" and "poo, poo, poo") they will also associate that word with the deed and when they head out will do the deed when you say the word. lastly, let you dog play AFTER pottying outside, of you bring the dog in immediately after pottying it will know that once it goes, play time outside is over and they will hold it untilt he last minute to they can play...if you let them stay out for a few minutes and play after pottying they will go as soon as they are done. any time your dog slips up and pottys inside tell them NO and immediately take them out...they will learn the messed up and should so it ouside! (also, the treat for pottying correctly outside is the way to go...they learn MUCH quicker) and good luck...it shouldn't be too long. my pit learned in just a few days!

***addition***
NEVER leave you pit outside unsupervised
they NEED human interaction regularly!
and NEVER chain the dog up!

A pit bull takes lots of attention, and you want to watch closely where and who he was purchased from as many people who fight the dogs also inbreed them for more aggressive traits. With my pit(he is a 2 year old alligator pit bull) he loves to be around us, and tends to act more like a lab most of the time then anything. He is also very good in the house as we leave him inside when we go to work and often the only damage done is a cushion pushed from the couch.

As to leaving one outside, it can be done, but I would suggest against it as pits love to have their people around, as my dog Kong shows me each and every time I come in from being gone for even an hour, as I am attacked and licked nearly into submission for walking through the door. For times when he is going to be outside if you wanted to insulate his house this link provides a simple design that could easily be modified to fit any dog.

Please don't tie this dog outside. You need to take the time to make him a member of the family. I have owned a pit bull for the past six years. I got him as a pup at two weeks. The mom stopped feeding the litter. I have raised him as a member of the family. He lives in the house, is house trained.. knows his manners and is very well behaved. Pit Bulls must be socialized on a daily basis. They love and crave attention.......please don't tie him outside in the cold.

You don't need an insulated dog house if your dog lives in the house.

Take your dog out often and praise him when he goes.

Pit bulls are not a good breed for outdoor dogs. As for house training just like any other dog, pits are hard headed so it can be trying on you.

You just have to pay attention and your pet will let you know when its time.
My staffys were the easiest I've ever housebroken.
BTW..this breed is the most human needy breed I've ever been around.
If you keep your dog outside away from you you are asking for problems...keep your pet with you as much as possible.
You will both be happier for it.
