This is very true. But I would assume that those who are asking questions of atheists are not the same ones who wish atheists weren't here. Of course, then again it wouldn't surprise me because us Christians can be pretty strange at times.
I am glad you atheists are here. This room would be less lively and less interactive without you. If it was just left up to Christians we would be discussion which style of worship honors God, what is the best worship song, and who wrote Hebrews. Along with the favorite game of who can find the Bible verse first!
Before the days of Answers I used to spend time in Christian chat rooms. They were boring as watching grass grow during a drought. They played worship music and everyone just kept talking about how wonderful God is and really didn't discuss anything. Then whenever an atheist or non-Christian would enter the room, the entire room would liven up and participation would increase 10 fold.
So, from a Christian to all atheists, let me say THANK YOU for being here!

It is not because they don`t want atheists - how could they don`t want them if they address them? It is because they don`t want uneducated people - who swear instead of giving an logical argument. Swearing it is not an answer. As well some of them think they are educated enough to answer - on this subject, but they are not. And from they`re lack of knowledge come argues. This goes to believers as well, not only atheists.
And to k716:
No. This is not the ideal place to learn about God, or anything else... To learn something you have to read about that subject. Books, not the Internet.

I have no issues with Atheists on R&S, I just find it curious that most atheists feel equally qualified to answer about religion--and begrudge the other group from answering back on atheism.
There are exceptions of course.

The fundamental issue appears to be that people of a religious disposition feel threatened by atheists, even though this does not work the other way round.
It is part of the inherent nature of religious devotion that it precludes people from accepting those of a different opinion to them. It is interesting to note that they do not feel as threatened by people of different religions (although they probably should) as they do by people who do not believe at all!
I think anyone with a belief that they cannot back up with logical and reasonable argument will always be threatened by somebody who can produce facts to support their own standpoint.

Because some people are compelled (and by this are meant some theists and some atheists alike) to keep having the same discussion endlessly and pointlessly. The same questions asked, the same answers offered, the same barbs exchanged. Tiresome. Anyone have anything new to say?

Actually, yes, there are people who are more qualified to answer questions about atheism than atheists. Who is more qualified to answer questions about WWII, a veteran who served in it or a historian who studied it? Atheists are good sources as they can provide their perspective on atheism, but they are poor sources if you want a comparitively objective perspective. Of course, religious individuals would also not be objective. Thus, Agnostics who have studied Atheism!

Because you are here and you ask questions of us, so why not address you? If we could ask questions and respond to each other with civility and some measure of grace, wouldn't both groups be better off, because there would be more understanding and less bigotry on both sides? I'm willing to try it. What say you?
Edit--hmm, thumbs down. Okay, no more bothering you, I promise.

The only issue have with (some) non-believers is the insults, condescending responses, and God/Jesus bashing. But everyone should be welcome here. And, as it is a free country, everyone is free to come here. Have a good day!
(To believers who don't think Atheists should be here, why not?? Isn't this an ideal place for them to learn about God?)

Many of them not trying to understand athiests so much as seeking validation for their beliefs from fellow R&Sers.
Some of them really are curious, though. They're the ones who don't get offended when an atheist answers. :-)

Starred and I agree. The only person who can answer questions about a belief, is the person who holds the belief themselves.
