last yr i had porcelain veneers put on my front teeth, well now one has abscessed and i need a root canal. Can they reuse the veneer or will i have to get a new one? they are $600 EACH i cant see having to buy a brand new one? i also think the dentist is at fault for not taking care of the cavity before putting the veneer on last yr.

A rootcanal on an anterior tooth is done through the back of the tooth. The only way the veneer would need to be replaced is if there was decay or leakage around any of the margins of the veneer and then they may look at doing a crown verses a veneer because the strength of the tooth has been compromised.
If the veneer is only one year old, did your dentist mention at the time this tooth possibly needing a root canal?
We would not charge full price if the veneer needed to be replaced, you might want to ask your dentist if it does need to be replaced will he discount it being that it was done so recently.

Since a veneer just goes on the front of your tooth kind of like an artificial fingernail, they should be able to open the tooth by making a small hole in the back of the tooth. They'll do the root canal and seal up the hole with a tooth coloured filling... not even touching your veneer.

TO DO THE ROOT CANAL IN A FRONT TOOTH THE VENEER WOULD NOT BE RUINED OR REMOVED AT ALL, BECAUSE THE DRILLING IS DONE TO THE BACK OF THE TOOTH AND NOT THE FRONT.
